Well, you know how it goes. You are looking for something you don’t need then you find that something and try to convince yourself you don’t need it, then end up getting it anyway. You know, like at a swap meet or somethin like that. Well, thats me with this tractor. Did I need it?… no, did I have room for it?… no not really, did I see it and really want it?… yes. So that said I made room and rearranged the shed to get it, and I sacrificed getting rid of my grandfathers old leaf blower project he gave me that I have not finished putting back together after I took it apart. I put it out for free on my front lawn with the parts. This makes 4 total yellow and white 1967 Sears Craftsmans for me now, but a total of 5 Craftsmans combined…. BUT a total of 7 total Craftsmans between my stepdad and I. This one is the last one for me for awhile now, even though I’ll still torture myself with looking online for more that I can’t have. Ha ha. Anyway this is mine though this time, and NOT my stepdads. I was searching on facebook marketplace at 2AM one night a couple days after New Years when I could not sleep, and it came up for sale. It was for sale for about 2 days when I found it, and about 5 days until I got it. My stepdad and I made the 6 total hour trip and went to Newton, NJ to get it today. We went straight to the owners house and got there at roughly 11:15, then we went for lunch at Burger King, then went to my stepdads friends house after that for about a 45 minute visit, then we finally went straight home. The tractor is another 6 horsepower electric start, and is kind of like my hydro that I have because its in original condition that came with a snowthrower attachment. HOWEVER unlike the hydro, this attachment does not have a discharge chute… which is ok because I am not planning to use it anyways. I plan to keep the tractor in original condition like the hydro since they are only original once, and since I have the same tractor that I am already currently restoring. So I will have a restored one, and a “survivor” one. The snowthrower I plan to keep in the corner of the shed. The interesting thing though about this tractor is that it was strictly only a snowthrowing machine and nothing else at one point, and not used all that much judging by the looks of the gas tank and the engine shroud, and that it does not have a deck or a deck lifting and lowering lever mechanism. The now previous owners name is Dave, and he has a little tractor collection himself. He has about 7 total tractors, which I will include pictures of here. He says he bought the Craftsman not too far from where he lives to get it running with his nephew, and for his grandkids to ride around his beautiful 6 acre property. His grandkids are grown now so they said to pass it onto someone who will appreciate it like they did, and thats where I came in. I showed him a picture of my other yellow tractor and my hydro and I think it made him feel better that he sold it to me. He says he got it running, and he replaced the front tires but otherwise he did not mention anything else. I assume he did not make the stainless battery tray because he asked if it was original to the tractor, which we told him yes it was. So, I plan to thoroughly look it over from top to bottom and unveil it at the first tractor show of the year later this year in May.

Hi Everyone,

I got the tractor out today (so I can work on my other one) and got some more pictures of it. I figured I would share them here. The nose is banged up a bit, and its rusty underneath the seat but otherwise it looks pretty good. Look at how nice the gas tank, and the engine shroud look. If anyone wants more pictures just let me know….

Also, I decided to officially look over the tractor today since I had it out. Anyone think I should replace the air filter? My stepdad thinks so but I think its ok. The tractor looks really good and its been well taken care of, but I’ll probably just end up putting some seafoam in it to clear out the carbon but thats about it….

That tractor looks to be in pretty good shape. And looks to be whole . Your air filter is probably good as long as there's no tears in it.
Looking at your plug it might be running a little rich. Doesn't look like oil. Carburetor adjustment might help.

That is a nice tractor Eric. I agree with Bill that it has been running rich. An air filter can look good, but if it set in humid weather for many years the element can be bad. That in itself can make a tractor run rich. Cheap insurance to buy a new one. Keep the old one and compare how it runs with both. I have had filters that look pretty much the same, but one causes some issues that feels like flooding.

Does that apply to tractors that have been in the garage all “their lives”? I ask because the previous owner Dave said he always kept it in the garage during his caretakership, and his garage was also heated. I don’t know if that would make a difference or not in your guys’ decisions. My stepdad says it runs the best out of all our tractors, but the spark plug is like my hydros and is a little blacker than I would like it. I did not put the filter that came with it back on yet and I do actually have a spare NOS filter, so I will swap it out and then put some seafoam in it and see what it does.

Dac does bring up some good points about just the age and maybe breaking down.
Couple things to think about..
A new filter is cheap and will give you piece of mine..

Your NOS filter is probably worth more in the box than in your tractor..

And for as much as you're going to run or work the tractor the old one should be fine..as long as the pleats of paper seem ok. Honestly probably get away without one.. Don't see many filters run at the drag strips..

We live in a nearly desert area and I have had air filters choke up in humid springs and summers. The two main ones stay inside, but get used a lot. The elements still look good, can easily see light through the element, but maybe Stens filters are cheap junk. I put a new filter on and the engines run like they are supposed too. That's my MF12G and MF8E. Both tractors have engine transplants.
