Hitched up the 44" Swisher rough cut mower, started into some tall thick grass and weeds and it over powered the engine disengaged the blades and engine started right up engaged the blades and the belt squealed and smoke came out from the belt area quickly disengaged and got the mower on the cut area and tried the blades again and all seem fine mowed for another 15 minutes or so when I could heard the blades were not running full R's and it wasn't cutting stopped and checked it out the the belt / blades were not engaging so back to the house, got the manual out to see about a belt adjustment or. Well I think the manual was written by a 6th grade class mostly there but not much detail and nothing on changing the belt. Removed the covers and could see the belt wasn't busted but it is so worn that it will not tighten now how to get it out and I was pretty sure I knew what to do but didn't really want to remove the engine so I watched a YouTube video and sure enough the engine had to be lifted up to get the belt removed, to hot and late in the day to mess with more so quit for the day. Yesterday went to work on it and had a pleasant surprise, there are 5 bolts that hold the engine down 2 self tapper bolts and 4 with nuts when it looked like the nutted one would require twist my arm / wrist in 2 different directions, removed the 2 self tappers on to the nutted one and nice surprise they had welded the bolts to the frame so the nuts came right off and I lifted the engine and removed the belt, it is worn from 1/2" to 3/8", ordered a new belt and awaiting it

All dressed up and nowhere to go. I hate that when you get ready to do a job then have to work on something. I think I would like the model you have compared to mine. Mine is a 60” I got from a friend for free a few years ago. Since I got most areas under control I don’t use it much. When I did I think it would cut firewood. I had a little trouble with my drive belt. My friend repowered it with a Kawasaki pull start and had the wrong size belt on it. I think yours would be easier to maneuver. Hope you get it going Gary.

It'll go again as soon as a belt shows up, I've been happy with it bought it about 5 years ago and has done a good job have about 35 hrs on it. I'm a bit surprised it has an "A" belt vs a "B" I would think a "B" belt would be more up to the task. In the You Tube video comments someone asked about going with a Kevlar belt vs a regular and the fellow said the Kevlar belts last about twice a long as a regular belt. Its just a simple straight design around the engine pulley back to the blade pulley with a simple flat idler to put tension on the belt
