What is the difference between a 40 and 44 John Deere loader ?

The 40 is the one for the 300 series I believe (without checking first) & the 44 is for the 425-455 series & others? I don't think they'll fit the 140 Noel but I have a 1655 it would fit if you know of any?
According the JD parts, you have it backwards. The 40 is for the 425>. Not sure what loader was used on the 140's.

EDIT: Looks like a Johnson-Arps was used for the early loaders. Bet the 44 can be made to fit.

I did see a 318 JD for sale here, where I live, a while ago, and it had a number 40 loader, if I remember correctly. Must be a difference in width for different models of tractors ??
