What are you currently working on??

I have been working on cleaning up and waxing my MF7. I finished it up yesterday and took it out for a ride and some pictures.

I still have to do the mower deck. I’m going to replace the rear brake pads too. It stops ok on flat ground, but not so good on even slight hills. The outer pad looks completely worn down. It looks like they are NLA, so I’m going to have to find something close and make it work.

My 149 is up next. I haven’t used it since last summer, it needed the points cleaned to start. Not sure if it needed it, but I cleaned the carburetor too. The battery won’t hold a charge, so I will have to get one for it. I got it running then pressure washed it. It was filthy. That’s usually the first thing I do when I get a tractor, but for some reason I never washed this one yet. Tomorrow night I will start buffing and waxing it. Since this is a working tractor, I’m probably not going to go as crazy as I did on the Massey.

Yesterday I put a radiator in my 94 Ford Ranger. I was desperate and couldn’t wait to get one online. I didn’t want to patronize the local Napa store because of his cocky attitude three years ago about me returning a bad mass air flo sensor. I got a radiator there the next day for $238. Once I removed the radiator I seen my cooling fan had cracks almost between every blade. I called down to Napa and his counter guy had no listing for a 10 blade fan just a 9 and a 12. He wanted to order the 12 because it had the same plate mounting holes as mine and said it wouldn’t make a difference. He said he would send me pics of the 9 & 12 so I could compare it to my old one. I told him to wait until I get my old one off and I would let him know. I called two other local places KOI and Auto Zone but they only had the 9 blade. These three places are in town within a rock throwing distance from each other and 15 minutes from home. I called O Reilly’s about 25 minutes away and they could get me a 10 blade exactly what I need the next day. I was happy and told her to get me a serpentine belt also. I called Napa back and the jerk owner answered and immediately said my fan will be in first thing in the morning. I explained to him I never ordered one so we went back and forth for a few minutes and he still tried to convince me to pick it up. I hope he trips over it because it’s his. Everything went well except the lower transmission cooling line was a little stubborn going back in. Another thing I might add the 12 blade fan at Napa was $73. and the 10 blade at O Reilly’s that I got was $36. No more Napa for me.
Good thing you caught the damage to the fan now, instead of later!:oops:o_O

Here lately I have been buying alot between Rock Auto and Ebay,
Same here DT I’ve been a big fan of Rock Auto for a long time. I’ll be doing my front brakes next. I’ve got rotors, calipers, pads, and the two rubber hoses plus the shipping is still far less than buying local. I like the way they give you several price ranges, different factory brands and what is popular. That whole package will be around $250. including their $42. shipping.

I picked up the decals today.
Applied them right away and took pictures.
Got in such a hurry I forgot to install the headlights.
This is a 1967 Wheel Horse 1277.

Decided to take pictures with my other Frankenstein tractor.
It is a 1983-1987 Cub Cadet 1864.

That’s a good looking pair of workers nicely done Rick. I like both tire combinations. Which do you like on the front.
Thanks for the compliment.
I prefer the Tri-Rib on the front. But I already had the bar tread, and mounted on the rims, with hubs adapted to them.
They may be changed at sometime,,,,, or not.
The only things purchased for this tractor were the rear tires, paint and decals. The rest came with the tractor or were sitting in the corner of the shop waiting to be used.
Now I will be looking for a plow for it. Either a sleeve hitch or a slot hitch.

After church Sunday I spent almost 4 hrs, $40 in gas and 160 miles on the road picking up so rims/tires and fenders for the Dodge. I had already planned the trip for the wheels, I stumbled across the fenders early Sunday morning and it was only 40 mins from the wheel guy. I needed new tires and wanted more all terrain and I wanted these wheels. Current market is $200-400 for the wheels, these tires are at least $1000 for 4 so they will do for now.....and they are beeeeeffyy.
So my grab was 3rd gen 2500 wheels with tires that only had 8000 miles for $600 and 2 new fenders for $200 ( they are going for 135 and higher a piece).

They are supposed to be polished face, little before and a quick hand polish with Mother's. I'll hit them with my polishing wheels and Rouge compounds.

Beautiful tractors, Rick! You do great work!

Looks like a great workhorse, Cub! Looking forward to seeing some of the chores you will be using it for.

Thanks Doug. I put the mower deck on it today. If the rain holds out long enough, I’m going to try cutting grass with it tomorrow. The last time I mowed with it 2 years ago, I think one of the belts kept coming off. All of the pulleys seem to spin easy enough, two spindles are noisy though. I greased it up good and will see what happens. I might need some bearings or spindles.

Thanks, John!

We took I-29 from Sioux Falls to Kansas City, Roger. Had a crazy deal Thursday going through Council Bluffs, IA. There was a wildfire going on both sides of the interstate. Firefighters were guiding traffic through it! The smoke was kind of hard on me but we got through ok! There were no racers at Lucas Oil Speedway from Corning Iowa entered Friday or Saturday.

I did notice that the terrain in Missouri looked like a thin layer of dirt on top of thick layers of rock! The trees and vegetation take full advantage of what dirt there is---LOL! Very nice country though.

They had races in Corning on Saturday night but not sponsored by Lucas Oil. I saw where they had field fires over by council bluffs. Then set back fires to get the main on under control. Good place to be in the lawn mower blade service business.

Playing with a couple of push mowers yesterday.
I took my 2nd flymo mower off of the wall yesterday, it's been there longer than I've had the one that I've been using these last couple of mowings. My 3yo grandson came by and got a kick out of it running with handle locked straight up and with it running, moving around by itself like a jitterbug. He can pull it around the yard quite easily, still has a bit of problem pushing it normally but not as much as he would with a regular push mower... Seemed like fun for him.

otherwise aggravating.
there was a thread on here probably a year ago about Briggs quantum engines that were put away running great in the fall and having no (or weak) spark when pulled out in the spring.
I have a newer ohv Briggs on a lawn boy frame that fits that.
a couple of weeks ago I yanked and yanked and yanked some more, and finally got it to run but quite crappy at that. It popped and farted and didn't run more than a few minutes died and wouldn't run again.
I Don't remember why now, but I put that engine on that deck because of an issue with the original engine //but the deck, self propelled unit wheels and all were still in such good shape about 4-5 years ago.
the engine came off of one of those John Deere push mowers with the swivel front casters, my son was carrying in a tractor bucket and dropped, and cracked one of the casters off. Either an aluminum or a magnesium deck. So I had saved that engine at the time and scrapped the rest of the Deere.
it bolted on that lawn boy like it belonged there, and has been a good machine since til now.
when I last ran It in the fall the self propelled cable broke. It became harder to push like a non self propelled model than a non self propelled model would be. So I replaced that cable this spring before I ever tried to start it for the season. I went thru the carb because I could sometimes get it to fart and pop on ether/, but not like one would expect. Pulling the carb the plastic throttle shaft snapped where the governor link clips in. I thought I had another but couldn't find it anywhere. I looked around and was shocked to see everyone wanted $17 for that little piece of plastic. I found one for $6 new in the package on eBay. When it got here I found the one I thought I had here. Figures.
put that back on and won't even fire.
tried a different plug. Won't fire. Pulled the flywheel to check the key, no problem found. So it's got to be the coil.
found one that I saved several years ago from an otherwise junk motor and put that on. No fire. I got my cordless drill out and it occasionally had a little weak spark when I was running the drill full tilt, with the spark plug out.
It had a hard time lighting the plug on fire hanging loose and grounded against the block, soaked in ether ...
so I went to the local small engine place to see if they had one quick while I had it apart. I wasn't paying $50 for a coil, when I had 4-5 engines laying here I could drop on that won't cost me anything. So I pulled that engine off, went to bolt one of my spares on and guess what
all of my spares crank is the same diameter (7/8) but the blade adapter won't fit any of them?! The crank on that particular engine is fatter than any of my spares.... WHAT? And I need "that" blade adapter as it has the pulley built into it for the self propelled drive belt... So back to square one.
when I put that engine on that deck it all went together fine, no hint of an issue... So it was coincidence that the random engine I put there years ago was the same diameter as the original yet different than conventional.... Weird.
so now to see if I can find a coil somewhere else that isn't $50, find a different blade adapter for one of these other 5 or so engines I have here already or junk the whole setup....
Wasted most of an afternoon

Carol got these two little wooden chairs years ago for the kids when they were growing up. A few of the spindles broke over the years so I repaired them with some 1/2” dowel rods. I used my Dremel tool to grind out the old wedges so I could pull the bent back up out of the seat. These are well made little chairs of poplar. Now she can paint or stain them.

I have this Brinly chisel/ripper cultivator plow. It was my brother's.
Looking to restore it and then put it up on Craig's List for him.

Up close, it's not so clean looking.

Not a hard restore really. The dumb carriage bolts were a 2nd hand grade over the years. Not the originals from what I could tell.

This was produced from the 60s up to the 90s. Simple design, durable as all can be. The model Brinly sells today is cheap-o angle-iron and will not be strong like this one.

I know, this should of been done weeks ago to hit the garden season for garden tractors or SCUT tractors to use right now.

My brother bought this from Sears long ago.

SEARS BY BRINLY SINGLE BOTTOM PLOW - CAT-0 OR CAT-1

Model # 917.262910

- 12-in steel plow carves out the ground to make garden soil easier to cultivate
- Cutting wheel has no nicks, no dents, perfectly straight and is solid.
- Surface trail wheel to keep the plow level at all times.
- Adjustable 12-in to 24-in cut width provides versatility for narrow or wider furrows
- 3PT CAT-0, works well with garden tractors.
- Could be used with 3PT CAT-1 with adapter for compact tractors.
