Saw this at Canadian Tire

C10-1/2 ton, C20-3/4 ton, C30-1 ton. C- is for conventional 2 wheel drive. CK- is for conventional 4 wheel drive. This was off the top of my old bald head so if I’m missing something someone correct me.
Chevy numbers, Jim! GMC different, Ford obviously different and I have no idea how Dodge numbered the various duty ratings of trucks!

Great looking Mercury pickup, Noel! Thanks for the pic!

I know Dodge had B250 vans in the early 90’s. I had two of them with the long wheel base for work vans. They were tanks with the indestructible 318’s.

1/2 ton = smooth ride.
3/4 ton = rough ride.
1 ton = Kidney killer.
They've gotten a lot better with the newer trucks. Even the 4x4's ride good now days.

Hehe. That’s a great system to call them Chris. I’ll add a bit, 1/4 ton = ultra smooth ride. Hehe.

Years ago I drove a 1973 3/4 ton dodge 4x4, with a wrecker in the bed and a snow plow on the front. 318 in it. I think. It was the shop truck at the service station I worked at. I use to call it, the spring and helmet truck. I figured you needed a helmet with a spring attached to the roof and helmet. To keep you in the seat.
It slowly replaced the other shop truck which was a 1962 chev 1/2 ton 4x4. It was a great old truck. No plow of wrecker on it. Used for boosting and towing vehicles, with a chain, back to the station.
The good old days, some would say.

I don't know about the newer 3/4 tons riding better than old ones, Chris. My '72 GMC C2500 (GMC number code then) 3/4 ton 2wd pickup by far has a better ride than the 2012 and 2014 Ford 3/4 ton F250 trucks we have at work. They are 4x4s though. The streets around work are in terrible shape and those two trucks beat the living crap out of anyone in it driving around the plant. We also have an F550 flatbed, 4x4 2016 if I remember right, and talk about brutal! Good thing it is usually pulling or hauling something heavy or your guts feel like they want to come out of every orfice---LOL! Neck gets beat to death, knees bash against the door panels and protect your elbows! My '55 GMC half ton rides better than all of them!
