I'm working on the K301 12 hp Kohler the alternator is not working and the stator is dead so I'm installing a good use 15 amp one that going good have it on the engine went to blow the dirt and crud off the flywheel and found its missing one of the magnets, I have a K321 14 hp flywheel and am wondering how hard it is to remove the magnets would take one from the 14 hp flywheel and glue it into the 12 hp I know someone has removed them and reglued then

You have to heat on the back side of flywheel behind the magnet. Top little heat and it won't loosen the glue, and too hot and the magnet shatters. You will several chances to get it just right. Wit an acetylene torch it only takes maybe 3 seconds but imagine with a propane torch several seconds. After cleaning where magnet will go, I like to hit the area with a Dremel stone for more "tooth" for a good adhesion. I typically use slow cure JB Weld, but any slow cure 2 part epoxy works great. Just don't use any "quick set" glue as it isn't as strong a bond.

Its working like it should, connected the wires installed a good VR started the engine flipped the alternator to on and ammeter jumped up to 10 amps volts were 14.6 so I shut it down and installed the VR i was worried I had fried started the engine flipped the alternator switch on and again 10 amps and 14.6 VDC so all is good thanks for the insight guys I appreciate the help
