I hate it! My wb snow blower wouldn't start the last time we got snow. So, I got it fixed and it ran great. Now, we got 2" of white junk and the mower wouldn't start. It goes putt, putt, putt . . . putt . . . putt . . . Now it is 4 degrees out. I am going to have to drain the tank and check for debris, if necessary clean the carb. Did I mention it's 4 degrees out?

2" isn't even worth starting a machine for out here! We got 5" Sunday night, just barely worthy of getting equipment out even then. I got the $40 snowblower out that we bought on July 4th and it did good on the patio, not so much on the gravel driveway. It did move the snow on the gravel, just could have done it with less effort on the tractor. The snow blower will just be patio duties but I needed to use it for awhile to see if it was going to work!

I think it's the time of year to seriously find why it won't start.

I forgot to get back to this. I figured that I had spark, but it wasn't getting fuel. I put on a new fuel line and tank andcleaned out the carb, but didn't have carb cleaner. Tried to start it again; Nada!
Alrighty! I went and got a new plug(maybe all of that ether affected it) and carb cleaner. That night I had a dream that said check the oil. Next morning, I checked and it was overfull and smelled like gas. Could it be that too much oil was hindering the engine from running? I rebuilt the carb, changed the oil, installed an inline fuel shut off and it started right up, instantly. Oh, yesssss!!!
Which thing I did fixed it . . . ? I have no idea.

On a side note; When I went to Autozone to get oil, almost everything they carry is some kind of synthetic. And the synthetic is way cheaper than the regular oil they do have. Is this the future?

Advance auto is the same way, best bet for conventional oil is NAPA, or tsc, I've switched from shell to traveler from tsc, buy it by the 5gal pail, farm tractors take 5qt or more per change, it's much more economical, only oil I buy in a auto parts store is for my truck.

Sure sounds like the crankcase was so full things couldn't rotate like it should Lilysdad. I imagine it's possible! Thankfully your dream set you up to win that battle!

Dang, I hope synthetic doesn't become all you can get! I use synthetic in my wife's 2006, and dino oil in everything else. Many years ago I tried synthetic in an old Camry my daughter was driving at the time and it didn't go well. No damage to the engine but she had to drive back home 450 miles watching the oil pressure. At about 65 it was fine but 75 mph (interstate speed) the light would come on. This was about 2500 miles on the new oil. Switched back to dino oil and no more problems! It had also developed some leaks which also went away after going back to conventional oil.
I don't know why, but it happened!

I get our oil at Sam's club but have to go to Wal-mart for filters. We have to hit both places occasionally so it's not an inconveinence.

If you have a rural king around I've found their oil prices to be great.

I use tractor supply brand of oil now. With all my vehicles either using or leaking so much, a $9 per 5 quarts is financially smart and it's not like it's getting much mileage on it LOL. Our Liberty is starting to leak bad from high on the motor somewhere, I put in 2 quarts every 3-4 weeks it seems.

Well if you sell it you can honestly say doesn't "burn" any oil... ;)

I've got one tractor that uses oil. It gets a fresh oil change once a year, from then on it's used oil from the oil change on my truck Its not that used, about 3000 miles between changes.......and poof, my used oil is gone

Wasin the COOP the other day and they don't even carry any Dino oil anymore. Surprised me. o_O
