I decided to treat both the JD 112 and the 68 with this to preserve what paint they have. No plans for repainting in the near future. First off was a bath for them. Warm soapy water and a scotchbrite cleaned the dirt and some of the fading off.

See next post!

After they had sat and dried, I put them in the shade for a bit to cool the surface. Then a put a small amount of the oil on a rag and applied a thin coat over the green paint. The pics don't pic it up well, but they do look much better. I have no inside parking, so we'll see how this works out in the weather.
After the application:

It takes a bit for this to dry, could remain tacky for a day or so. Much better than the faded paint look.

I like it. Not high gloss, Just enough to show you care. Makes me wonder if any one has tried tung oil. I like it better for wood. It seems to me to polymerize quicker, harder and more UV and water resistant. Much more expensive any more, but good stuff. Don

Looks good Kenny.
We use it on rusty metal and wood. So far, nothing that lives outside... But it will be cool to see how long.
On metal, we use a 4:1 linseed to (real) mineral spirits. Seems tonsoaknin better to rust and dries a little faster

Thanks, Alan! May try that mix next time.

Looks good Kenny. I'm with Stonebreaker Mike, I use Penetrol. I wipe it on with a rag though, rather than spray. I wipe my '55 GMC down with it once a year or so. It has a similar look to linseed oil but dries faster.
