Never made it to Menards today...I could sure use Noel's hoist about now!

I guess this '06 Denali is my toy hauler since I can pull the trailer with it. I had several errands to run today, and I had stopped a NAPA to get a throttle body gasket. No start when I went to leave. Battery was a few years old so I bought a new one. They had tools to loan so got them swapped. Still no start just a click. Bought a starter too and called a towing service to haul my broke down butt home. The rollback driver was a great guy and helped get tractors out of the shop and then could put the truck right inside. He loved the old trucks and tractors.

Got it up on the jack stands rounded up tools and got them shoved under the truck and decided I'm done for tonight. Think I might have to pull the right fender well too.

Have to go in to work for 3 hours in the morning, then will hit it again.

Hey, the starter is in the front!

This job sucks but the starter is in and works---BUT when I return the core tomorrow I need to get some shims. Makes a little flywheel grind when the starter disengages. At least the starter doesn't have to come clear out for shimming. Probably be in here a couple more days. Might take Tuesday off work.

I quit doing that kind of work. Goes to my main guy in town, even though unless it is an emergency would be a 2 week a
wait. He has vehicles stacked up all over the place. Only 3 guys in town that works on vehicles any more and one will only take on one job at a time.

The shop that takes only one at a time has one OH door, opens to a main street, single lane 2 deep bay. No place to park anything. The guy with several cars parked around his area is a top notch mechanic. If a vehicle is broke down and cannot be driven, he tows them in till they decide what they want to do. Only AAA towing in the area. He towed our van in on the roll back. Took over a week to get the hoise open to get it in top see what it needed. Had a pickup 4 x 4 on the hoist needing a new transmission. Once he wound out the problem it was deciding to go with new or with used. Then had to find the part and get a price figured out. That all takes time. Meanwhile the van is parked till the parts get shipped and delivered. More time. Mine isn't the only one waiting for parts. Has had a Jeep in the back corner been waiting for parts for over 2 months. Back ordered. I don't think Scott looks at the back log as depressing. Rather have them lined up to work on than a bare lot with nothing to do.

I can't really blame him. Think how depressing it would be to come to work every day with all those car and customers waiting and you knowing that will never change.
I think I would limit it to 3 or 4 at most.
Mine is mowers, 4 wheelers, and occasionally farm tractors, and believe me it does get to ya! I never wanted to be this busy. I have to start limiting what I have waiting so it doesn't stress me out so much.

Well---this truck is still putting up a fight---to a guy thats used to working on mostly mid 1950's to early 1970's trucks anyway!Got some shims when I returned to core starter and guess what---WRONG ONES! Called NAPA and they checked. No shims for that starter. I think they are regular shims for a normal old SBC. At least they were too long so I could modify them. Hole centerline needed to be about 3/8" narrower. Forgot to take a pic before I modified them to show the difference, but this is after. Crooked but fit ok. Used a grinding burr.

All I could fit in there was 3/16" worth as just 3/64" didn't help. Then the 3/16 went in---still no change. Starter makes a noise like trying so start after the engine is running. Not when engaging the flywheel, but when disengaging. Nothing made any difference!I hate to pull the starter and take it back, but I don't know what else to do! Did the oil change, topped off fluids yesterday along with the greasing.

THEN this afternoon after we got a new washing machine delivered, I'm greeted with this! Not sure where the coolant leak came from but right now I have to assume the water pump. There are orange drips on places below it. I had topped off the coolant before this and it took about a half-gallon.

I'll take the serpentine belt off after work tomorrow and see if there's wiggle in the pump pulley. It can still be bad even if the bearings are tight but that will eliminate one possibility.

'55 will be getting driving duties I guess!

Wish I could Roger, but can't afford farming this stuff out. Only guy I trust has too much work as it is.

I had a starter that was like that years ago. I couldn’t ever get it right. I took it back for a refund then went somewhere else and theirs worked. It’s so frustrating knowing that even a new part can be no good.

I just went through the same thing with a tractor. Topped off the coolant and came back in the morning and a big puddle under the front. New water pump so I knew it wasn't that. Turns out the overflow tank had a big crack in it. After taking it out I could see the plastic was very brittle. Got a universal one installed and no more issues.
I hope your fix is that simple. Maybe check the hoses too.

Yeah going to check hoses too but it requires taking off some of those plastic covers and iair cleaner ducts just to see them. The "under the hood view should be about identical to your '05 Escalade. Probably a 6.0, Chris?
