And more junk.

Swing in and cut a donut in his yard and he will wave at you !
That could be done!
I bet he would wave at you with one finger---LOL!

I am just not equipped to even do a decent job of planting some grass. Decided to scarify the water line area one more time. In the 7 months since that water line has been dug in that dirt is packed tight even with all the rain. The rain is probably making it pack tighter actually. The grass seed says it should be loose at least 4". I'm probably going to have to drag one of the old walk behind tillers out from the junk pile. One had a blown up 8hp B/S and the other had a 3.5 Tec on it. I have the Tec engine but the guy that scrapped it says it wouldn't run anymore. He was going to repower it but bought a new one instead. Have a OLD 7 hp Honda I had running but don't know if it could even be adapted to the one with the blown B/S.

Then I will probably have to get a locate done. I know the cable for our internet goes through the front yard somewhere, and I didn't pay attention to where it was when the water line got dug in. I cut a phone line in the back yard when I tilled up the go kart track one time. Was able to repair that myself. The phone company abandoned that line a year or so later anyway.

Jeez I bit off more than I can chew I guess. Drug the scarifier over it one more time today. Still hitting very hard dirt.

Need a tiller for the JD 110 you have Doug (hint hint). Just get on, start the tiller, and drive.

4" deep? I bet the rest of your yard does not have 4" deep loose soil and look at the nice green grass you have there. I would scatter the seed about 4 times thicker than they recommend, pull the garden rake up side down over to to level it and mulch it good with grass clippings. Keep it watered. Mulching and watering is the important part of a new seeding.

I have a tiller for the JD110 Jake, But it is missing the mule drive. I'm not paying 2-$400 for one! I seen one that was JUNK and the seller wanted 200 bucks! With that said I have been thinking that a gas engine could be mounted on the JD tiller and used on that tractor or possibly adapted to the 3 point on the MF1450.

The seed bag said to till 4-6" deep Rog!

I decided to heck with it the seed was going in today, trying to follow what Rog said. Of course we got another 3/4" of rain last night and this morning. Had to go to lunch with some relatives that are in town, stopped at Sam's club and when I got home, decided to go for it anyway. Got done at 6:30 pm. Well not really done but it started raining again.

I couldn't upside down rake because of mud. Just started spreading seed. One bag was supposed to be able to do it with some left over, but Loree brought me 2 more bags. Hope I overseeded enough. Still have half a bag. Spreading the straw was hard on a bad back but had just enough with 2 bales.

Had intentions of wheel packing but light rain started again. I don't have a roller. Figured the straw and mud would just stick to the tires.

As you can see the existing yard is real green but a lot of it isn't even grass!

I think you're going to have the greenish walkway on the block Doug.
Hope you can keep the straw from blowing away..

Well it looks like it will make 100 bales per acre to me.
Well if it was the whole acre maybe Chris---LOL!

It sure as he!! isn't going to match the existing weeds, but hopefully it will be green, Bill! The straw bale says it has "tack", whatever that means. Seems to be staying in place pretty good.

Grass seed looks thick enough to me. If every seed grows you may have to may that strip every other day. As long as that seed is covered with dirt or mulch 99% chance it will grow. Rain is your friend right now for a while. Don't have to pay for it either. ;)
The seed is getting thinner every day, Rog, thanks to the damm birds! All I have to pay for watering is some electricity from the well pump. That's why I wanted to get the well back in service a month or so ago.

Couldn't get on last night. Worked in the yard too late putting down the hoses, then mowing after that. Loree has been home the last couple days and that makes it harder to come out to the shop or do yardwork earlier.

Laid out 100' of soaker sprayer hose. it was stubborn and wanted to twist around. Went and got the MF1450 and put rocks on the hose. Had rocks on the drag.
IMG_2957.jpg

Didn't realize the pic was so blurry.

Went behind the shop and unhooked the drag. Set it on a pallet with the JD110 stuff.
IMG_2959.jpg

Drove it around and turned on the water, then drove around front and looked at the spray.

The mist is so fine it's hard to see but can tell the straw is getting wet. Wind will blow that spray around easily.

Mowed after I took that picture.

Went to Hot Springs today and got home about 7pm. The damm doves were feasting on grass seed. Did I ever say I hate doves? I definitely do!
Always hated the irritating noise they make and now they p!$$ me off worse!

Turned the water back on to get them off the seed for awhile. Don't know if it can be over watered.

I think it's going to take a long time with that soaker.
That's what I was thinking too, Chris.
You need to get yourself one of those owl decoys.
May not be a bad idea!
If the birds after getting the seeds through the straw, the straw is not thick enough. I always like grass clippings better than straw Stay in place a lot better and birds don't go through it.

Or a shot gun?
I walked it real good today and didn't see where there is any bare spots where it looks like they were getting through Rog. There are a couple little piles where ants have dug in. I suppose it is soft enough where they like the easier digging. I have ant granules but don't want to put it on until it looks like grass grows.

Afraid I don't have a shotgun anymore. Hate to admit I had to sell the one I had when we were hard up for cash back in the 90's. Never bought another. Should get some CO2 cartridges for my pellet rifle. Neighbors won't hear that.

Silencer prices will start dropping fast now that the tax will go off Jan. 01, '26. Several are thinking under $100 for a small caliber rifle. Time will tell.

If there is no bare spots I doubt the birds are getting much and wouldn't worry about it. To bad you don't have a roller. After one more good rain I will roll our whole lawn except the dog pen, and it needs it the worst. Might take piece of fence down and bring my mowers unit in as it has the rear tires filled and are the turf tires yet.

There are some bare spots now. Had a rough thunderstorm come through last night with wind up to 60mph. Most of the straw stayed but not all of it. Will get some more tomorrow.

I don't save clippings. No bagger and I'm not going to hand rake. Possibly the rake attachment I built for the MF1450 would pick up some but it is so loaded with cottonwood I don't want to be pulling small trees from the grass if it does grow.

DAC

Use the mower to mow and blow it towards the seeding. Will cover better and get to ride while doing it. ;)
Yeah that would help, Rog. Still don't want to blow cottonwood seed into it more than it will get naturally anyway. Lots of crazy stuff going on all of a sudden and I don't know when I will be able to mow next even! Be at least Thursday the way it looks. Got CO2 cartridges and straw bales today but no time to do anything with them!

All I got done was got the rifle out and rounded up the ammo---LOL! This thing uses the cartridges pretty fast. It's at least 50 years old.
