Ryan, you can usually find a good used diesel in a Toro or Yazoo mower unit. There's lots of equipment out there that has good engines in them and the machine is wore out.
If they were on a A/C B10, they were used to allow the A/C loader to fit on the tractor. That's why they were on it. The L10 and L12 loader frame was too wide to mount on the rear axle without the spacers
@chieffan, typically hollow shafting is stronger than solid shafting. You may want to get the spindle center drilled to allow you to work on longer stock.
Is the light switch still in the dash? It should pick up power from the ignition switch to the light switch and then out to the lights. There should also be an inline fuse between the ignition switch and light switch.

Wow Dave, there are some really sweet truck there. I've always loved the way the 78-79 square headlight F-150s looked especially the 4 x 4's. And that model A is really sharp also.
A 317 with a Series 2 Kohler or even the later dealer installed Onan with tiller, snow blower, weights, chains and a mower deck looking that nice is probably worth that to someone.

Noel, I don't think the Kohler was a replacement, JD used so many engines that they bought from both companies. Wheel Horse was the same way, they used either brand depending on who could supply their demands that year.
