Yes, Cub, JD, Gilson and a few other brands all used the same basic gearbox. Some used a different finish to the top of the steering shaft to fit different types of steering wheels.

You should be able to pull it together. You may have to kind of form it over the edge of your workbench to help the outside diameter to come together. Use the photo that Larry sent back to get an idea of what the sections will look like.

DAC, if the axle or bushing in the housing has a lot of wear, you may not stop it from leaking. Do you have enough room in the axle housing to add packing behind the seal?
There should be a lever under your right leg sitting on the tractor that is the "high-neutral-low" range lever. The only way you can roll the tractor with the engine not running is that lever has to be in neutral.

Mowed the yard again today, with all this rain we've been having this spring I have been mowing since the second week of February on a weekly basis. About June that will slow down I'm sure.
