This engine has been in my way for a long time. I think it has some internal damage as even with the plugs out it's pretty hard to pull the rope. There is a loud "snap" noise turning it over too.

I doubt anyone has one they need parts for but thought I would try. If there is anything that interests someone make an offer and I will pull the part or parts and send. Will be going to scrap next spring.

The "snap" noise might just be the magneto, Doug. Looks like a nice little engine, hopefully someone can get it back into running condition.

If pulling it over is normally that hard, I sure ain't man enough for it then!

Naa . think you're just losing your touch Doug.. ;)

Nothing sucked more than rope starting those old motors..
especially if they didn't start on the 1st 2nd pull..and remember you never had a good enough rope ? let alone one with a handle on it..

O have a couple of those old engines too. Luckily the THD that I shoehorned into a Bush Hog JBI has electric start. I haven't started it in at least 6 to 8 years so I need to fire it up soon. It was running perfect, but the extra long throttle cable frooze up and I parked it and never found the time to install a new cable.

I think we have one of those out in the lean-to and possibly another that might be stuck. Not sure if we need anything for them but I will try to look at it tomorrow to verify what we have.
Let me know, CJet. I contacted a guy that works for the antique tractor association that runs the Sturgis Threshing Bee to see if they would want it for some of the displays they have on the grounds.

Remove the spark plugs and see how it turns over, it could also be rust on the cylinder walls causing it to turn hard a few years ago I was looking for one like that but not anymore
I did that Gary. Couldn't feel and difference.

Thought about trying to set up a starter generator and a pulley on the engine but I'm sure one from a 8HP B/S or Kohler wouldn't be able to handle it anyway.

Yeah that's for sure, Bill. The rope with this engine don't have a handle. Wouldn't be hard to make one up but I don't have the desire to mess with it.

We do have 2 old Wisconsin engines. One is a TJD and the other is a TFD. The TFD was outside and the cover dad had on the exhaust blew off. If I was closer I would take the complete engine off you. I'm sure the one we have is probably toast but you never know. I think the mag is in the shop but not sure. The carb looks like the carb on our Farmall A and I remember dad saying he pulled a carb off another engine around here to replace the broken original Farmall A carb. Might be where he got it. I'll do some looking for the parts and let you know.

The TJD engine still turns over and is in the lean-to on the shipping container.

I remembered a former signshop customer I had from many years ago who is involved with the Antique tractor group around here. I messaged him on FB a couple of weeks ago and he finally responded the other day, giving me his phone#. I called right away and left a message. That was over a week ago.

He was a racer I lettered several racecars for back in the 80's and early 90's. I did all the signwork for a business had had at one time. Somehow he got into offshore oil exploration so I lost touch with him. He is gone out on a ship most of the time, making big bucks.

Two or three years ago at the threshing bee we saw him. His sister was running a tent with a bunch of his engines and tractors around it. He even had a mid 1960's GMC "twin six" that was a popular irrigation pump engine. Sure wanted to hear that thing run! Never could get caught up to him although we watched him riding an antique High Wheel bicycle in the tractor parade.

Anyway last night he called. Said he had to catch a flight to the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday morning at 5am. He thought he may be able to stop and get that engine this afternoon. I wasn't holding my breath since he has very little home time it sounds like. Sure enough at 3:30 he called and said he was 4 minutes away! I had the cherry picker in position just in case. We loaded it talked about old times a bit and I pried a little out of him on how he is doing now, besides being on a oil exploration ship in various locations around the world. He said he doesn't remember how many tractors and engines he has stored in a huge pole building near Sturgis. He has 2 airplanes that he flys when he gets time, 2 cars for drag racing, several old restored cars including a 1926 or '28 Paige that is still a work in progress. Still has a couple of dirt track sprint cars too! The last car I lettered for him was shortly after he got the oil exploration job. It was a winged sprint car and he wanted the number "710". That way when he would flip the car as all sprint car guys do at some point, upside down the number said "OIL"---LOL!

Long story but he took the engine and said he will get it running and display it with his collection at the threshing bee. He even said if I ever wanted it back for some project that it would be ready for me.

I am confident it went to a good home, and not to scrap! If it's not too hot next August, we will try to go catch up with him but that's pretty dang hard to do!

Those things show up around here on market place and craig's list from time to time. I've just never had an interest in them so haven't owned one. Any idea what one of those is making for HP?
From what research I remember doing, Chris, they only produced 14-16 HP. They weigh probably 3 times what a 1970's era Kohler 14 hp does. I don't remember what the torque was or if I even knew. That must have been the best quality of them. I remember a member we haven't heard from in a long time, Kris or Gtractor as he was known by here and at GTT built a completely one off tractor using one of these engines. He called the tractor "Fabricobble". It was not cobbled at all though.
