1966 Moto-Mower wiring

I have finished repainting my tractor. Now when I attempt to connect the battery cables I get sparks.
I did retire it but, everything is wired the way it was before.
any suggestions?

If you have sparks that usually indicates a positive making contact with a ground or open circuit. Double check wires to ensure everyting is correct. Check for pisitive wires that may be grounding.

Wires are correct and do not see any wires that could be grounded.
should there be any other grounds aside from the battery?

You may have an open switch. The lines should not cause spark if eeverything is working properly. Only a ground, short open circuit, orworn wire insulation should cause this.
