Curious as to what you mean by " Factory Official model Camaro " . ?

And also you worked for Pontiac and bought a Chevy...Boo.. ;)
I wanted a SS 396 but got the Camaro instead. No discount except for a GM employee.
Factory official cars were cars that the Factory GM and Plant formans and exes ordered to drive on GM. They al did it , Chevy, Pontiac, Olds, Buick, Etc.. My father-in-law drove nothing but Cadillacs during the 25 years he was GM exec, my nephew still drives GM or Chevy trucks as an exec.. Just a perk they get.
At the end of a time period usually a year or little more or after 1500 miles or s they have to be turned in to be sold.

My dad's wife was on some kind of GM program like that, even after she and dad retired from a Flint area GM plant. Dad didn't have enough seniority to qualify but she did. They would call and mail me about the great deals we could get buying a new GM vehicle being a family member. That was back in the '70's and 80's when we could barely afford the junk we were driving---LOL!

Your story made me laugh a little in a sad way.
Just because its cheap doesn't mean you can afford it..sucks
Lots of people don't see it that way..

My dad worked at Fisher Body in Norwood, OH back in 66 for a few years building Camaros. He use to talk about a 66 car being called a 67 never made any sense along with the close comparison with a Firebird. He was always a machinist doing piece work but because of a major plant shutdown he started at Fisher Body. He was laid off there when they started the second gen car in 70. For some reason they anticipated a lot of work needed and hired a lot of people just to be laid off later. He told some crazy stories, one I can remember was never buy a car that was made on Friday or the day before a holiday. Those were the days lemons were made. Lol

Chris is that DB badge a hood ornament.
It's off of the grille. When I purchased the panel it had been involved in a rear end accident so I had to replace the front end. The vehicle came with another front end so I ended up with two of these grille emblems and the one in the photo is the one left over. It's in nice condition and should go to someone missing one. I don't know how they made these but the colors are neat looking. a
almost iridescent. Maybe baked enamel.

We never got a brand new car until 2021! By far too late to get one of those GM employee deals. Actually Loree went and made the deal without me even knowing it---LOL! Fine with me. Car salesmen make me mad.

My great uncle worked at a GM stamping plant forever. It was near Mansfield Ohio or in Mansfield. When I was a kid he always showed up to visit in a brand new top of the line Cadillac. Grandpa said it was because he got discounts because of his job.
I don't know what dad's wife did, but dad was a plant industrial electrician. It was a Buick plant in Flint, Michigan.

Those grill and hood emblems back in those days were a little piece of art! Thanks for that pic, Chris!
