A little plowing with Grunt

Today, as I try to finish up the gardens for winter. Two more gardens to do tomorrow, depending on weather. Grunt has 6-12 ag tires, no chains, no wheel weights and I don’t sit on the left fender to give the left tire more traction. I sit on the seat where your suppose to sit. Plows fine. Maybe a little different in sod thou. And in the last two pictures that is a split crown. All ground plowed under the turned over ground.

Ya gotta know how to cheat a little Rick, to straighten them out when they go woup tee do. Hehe.

Waiting for your Plow day pictures Rick. Is it still a go for the 16th. ?

My Bolens has AG's and fluid but no weights. Put the fluid in when It had the snow thrower on it and not about to remove it. No problem wit the Bolens 1050 pulling the plow either. We always called the last photo a back furrow, one furrow threw back over the first. The last two at the side were the dead furrow, nothing ever happened to them.

That’s something I have not quite learned yet. How to set the Plow to trail good and be easy to pull. Seen a video on that once. But can’t find it now. That was for big tractors, but should be the same for small tractors. Grunt has a worn out 10 hp kohler and I was only running it at half throttle. So I’m guessing it was making about 6 hp while I was plowing.

not sure how it would work with a sleeve hitch but with a 3pt I always had the right arm about 2.5-3" higher than the left arm and center link adjusted so the bottom of the plow was level at the lowest cutting depth.

Air cooled engine do need air.... but not full throttle... I rarely reach half throttle unless its a hydro machine.

I will call them Thursday evening and see if it is a yay or nay. It's been wet this week with chance of rain into Saturday morning.
Hoping the moisture will soften that old clay without making it too slick.

I use this as a guide to setting up my three point.
I have not been able to get the line of draft just perfect but it is as close as it is going to be.
My sleeve hitch is basically pre set , I just change the angle to level the plow in the furrow.

My bil always had draft horses and his son, my nephew, still does, so I have on several occasions used a walk behind horse drawn plough..... that gives you a kinda of feel for it and a good visual as to when its working properly or not... and when its right you can almost control it with one hand, the plough does all the work for you and the horses are easier to steer than these short little garden tractors.... so you dont actually need big hp or alot weight if the plough is properly pointed forward. Even if your cutting thru virgin sod the plough will only pull you sideways for the first few feet until it gets down to proper cutting depth then it will go pretty much go straight ahead... its what they are designed to do.
