Building the tractor ramps for the hoist.

So this won’t be much of a story and will only be a few posts. And hopefully I can remember where I put this, so I can add to it.
Any way, to start things off, I figured the ramps would be easier to move and carry if I had a handle on the sides so they can be picked up and carried easily. So I had handle in mind, same as on a garage door kind. So knowin the way I am, I figured I’d make the handles and save the money. Had some 5/8 soft copper tube in the shop and made the handles. Just have to drill some holes in them for screws.

See you have all the in the world to make those handles now that h---- is saving you much other time....;)

Those handles do look nice. 4 that look almost identical. Good job.. If I had to do 2 or more they would have looked like they came from different stores..

Another little progress. Gunna use these chock blocks to keep the tractor from moving while on ramps.

A little more done. Got the drive onto the hoist ramps figured out what to use and put together. Figured out where the balance was on the drive on ramps and ramps on hoist and install my home made handles. They work good. And a lot easier to pick up ramps and move.

On to the last step, I think. I’m going to use a piece of pipe that will go into the holes in hoist arm. These holes are were the pads and extensions go in, to lift the vehicle. I will cut this pipe to fit in holes and then weld metal on to the pipe. This metal will be screwed to the bottom of the ramps. This will secure ramps to the hoist so they can’t slide. The ramps are set to be twenty inches apart in the middle. So this will sort of make the ramps preset so you just put them on the hoist arms and it’s all set. No more measuring each time they are used. All my tractors are about 22” to 25” apart on the inside of the tires. Only one narrower is the MF 7. It’s 20” inside on the front and 16” On the back. So have to watch that one. But it will still have 6” of each rear tire on ramp.

yeah I have been thinking about a safe way to build something for my hoist to be able to put a whole GT up in the air without it falling off, yet have full access underneath.

So a little more done. Got the pipe and metal cut, then welded together and painted. When dry will install them. Will put the pipe pieces in the hoist, set on our ramps, get the 20” inside measurement we want, set the rear of ramps on the hoist, ahead and back measurement, then screw the metal, that’s welded to the pipe, on to the ramps. And it’s done. Ramps will always be set in the same place and can’t move.

Looks like they will function fine, Noel! Man, I haven't brazed anything in 25 years I suppose! Not sure if I have the rod and flux to do it any more. Have to dig around now!

I try mig and I try stick. Some times they work, some times not.
I know, when I take out the gas torches, it’s gunna work. Allways. No ifs, ands, or buts. I can weld it quarantined with either bronze or steel rod.

Ok last episode of the ramp build for the hoist Got the pieces I made put in the hoist arms, put the ramps on top of them. Got all our measurements done. Put the screws through the pieces I made and into the ramps. Gunna work good. No worries of the ramps moving on the hoist arms, with a tractor on there. Plus, easy to pick the ramps off and put on the hoist. And we have a place to set the ramps when not in use.
Anybody have a different or better way to secure the ramps or any type of different ideas on how to do what I did, please make a post about it.

Noel

It's going to work fine! The planks almost look like some sort of "glue lamination" like real thick plywood, so to speak? That is some very tough stuff! Either way it will hold up fine.

Engineered truss I think it’s called Doug. Used in floor supports instead of an steel I beam, in some cases. The strong way of it is up and down. Not the way I’m using it. But when ya put a tractor on there, it does not bend in the middle.

They call them "glu-lam beams" here. Very durable for sure! Not cheap either!
