Call me redneck but....

Was 6” ice on a local lake November 22. Gotta be 30” by now

We had 18" a few years ago. We were all over the lakes. Boy was it a pain to drill through with a manual auger!

It was never worth it for me. I had on a pair of the cabellas winter drylock bibs. Those things are amazing. Breathable, but no water or air gets through them. I was kneeling down on the lake after we drilled the hole scooping out pieces of ice from the hole and my knees froze to the pond. I had a heck of a time getting up, my buddy had to pull me..
