Couple pics for "Gasser Jim" aka @Sawdust

Early days of Pro Stock. I was bummed he didn't stand on that thing!

I don’t ever remember watching the Motown Missle race. I can’t remember exactly why but I know this car didn’t last long. It was always like doing a test run for Mopar. It was later replaced by the Mopar Missle which I seen run many times at Edgewater Park back in the early 70’s. When the Gassers faded out I always liked the Pro Stockers.

I never got to see any of them, Jim. No pro dragstrips within 450 miles of here. Just read about them in magazines. Black Hills Dragway later Dakota Intermountain in Belle Fourche, SD about 70 miles NW of here was NHRA sanctioned, but the shutdown area was too short to handle national touring events. Went up there many times to watch bracket racing though. Track is long gone now.

I got to work on this former Pro stock turned into a Super gas several times '73, '74. My boss at the race car shop I worked at was racing it up at Belle. That was a lot of fun too! Another crappy old Polaroid pic.
Miller-Starkey Camaro touched up cropped.jpg

Lettered quite a few local drag cars too in the last 40 years including this S/G Nova.

Built this 1/24th diecast for them too.

Started out as this.

I derailed the topic but it is still drag racing related at least!

I knew that Willys Eric posted would be your favorite!

Awesome graphics job on that Doug. Did you build you one too. I’m trying to figure out ways of making decals. One of my pet peeves are not using factory decals on certain model cars. Our printer won’t work in its copy mode so I’m thinking we need to upgrade that first. I have files on my computer that I can print on decal paper that are train related but nothing for cars.

Thank you Jim! No didn't build one for me. I briefly made waterslides as I got a little silkscreen decal kit just before the flood. Made a few simple ones that went on cars fairly well. Can't remember how to do it anymore. Long before anyone ever heard of owning a printer at home. Not much help on that. Maybe you can do an internet search for the wanted graphics to get files. Does a .JPG file print to the decal paper ok?

I just cut the graphics out of sign vinyl after doing designs in the sign making program I have. Yeah they leave a little edge that wouldn't fly in a model contest but these things are just for fun and memories. I give them a few heavy coats of clear that smooths them out a bit, and helps "glue" the vinyl down.
