Deck coatings for easy clean up

I think I filled about 12, or 13 ish holes on my new deck. I assume they are optional holes for other models that use the same deck? I put carriage bolts with nuts/washers. I sprayed some fluid film underneath the deck, and into seam areas on the deck, also the spindles/blades.

About a 1/4 of the lawn was lush grass that was soaking wet. Grass sure is lush over the septic field....... A fair amount of the lawn was fairly dry/sparse. Wish I had the luxury of mowing dry.

The fluid film did a pretty good job. I used the flush port, and cranked the engine/blades up awhile to get the wet grass out of the deck. I just blasted the deck with my air gun to get any excess grass off. I'm going to pull the deck, and use the mower to pull some dirt w/trailer. Lawn is pretty bumpy.

This is the first run with this mower. Put about 2.2 hrs on the new motor. It is rated at 3600 rpm, shows about maybe 3100 at the most. Also idles at about 2000 rpm. Shows 1550 for idle range. Top end is low, and bottom end is high.

Will have to check into that.

On decks with rust I first remove the loose rust and scale with a needle/scaler, then treat with rust converter. Then I put at least 2 coats of "EZ Slide" which is a graphite coating that usually lasts 2 to 3 years. Grass can still stick, but not as fast, and is much easier to remove. I get the EZ Slide at TSC.

Interesting..... so you don't technically paint. Only a rust converter, and EZ Slide.

Does it stay that way? When you live in the country there is so much junk goes through the deck That the paint doesn't last all that long. I also find even with a brand new deck large juicy weeds tend to stick under the deck no matter what.
The finish is still excellent after 7 years however i can mow my lawn in 20 minutes and only maybe 10 times a year. The paint is a very tough Acrylic Urethane enamel. I didnt buy the paint!!! Heck no,,left over paint from painting someone’s truck,,

I have come to the conclusion that the fluid film works very well for me. Better than the vegetable oil. The veg oil in some parts of the deck allowed grass to build up some, on certain deck/blade areas. I bought two spray cans, which lasted most of the season. Hardly any grass has stuck to the deck. Of course I sprayed the deck before each time I mowed. Spray cans are almost gone. The built in deck cleaner port works pretty well.

I bought a 1 gallon container of Fluid film, with a sprayer to spray on the deck next year.
Next mowing season I will be trying that out. Hope it works well. My back up plan is maybe a paint pad, or paint brush.

I will wish all a Merry Christmas, and Happy New year! Pat

I have a gallon of Fluid Film too. Most definitely cheaper that way. But thick like molasses. Always thin it with mineral spirits. Not sure if that's what they recommend off hand but seems to work..

I did have light build up on the deck, that I cleaned up after doing the deck flush with hose. Then light water hose spray with the nozzle finished by high pressure air blow off. Everytime I mow there is some extra moisture in certain areas of the lawn.

Yes I'll try to spray it. Thought about warming the spray cup just before I spray it. But maybe that won't work? If not I'll try thinning it.
