I went today and met a nice fellow who happened to have a Cub Cadet 101,Complete by the looks of it and a Huskee lawn tractor sitting in the weeds next to his driveway.I asked about them and he told me they were free to a new home!I like that price,The cub had its motor rebuilt by a shop and the timing is off,It would barely run,He believes they installed the cam a tooth off,It was his mom and dads and they decided they had spent enough on an "Old " tractor so they bought a new one.He believes it should be a fairly easy fix,I will find out.The huskee just goes with it(Take both to get the one you want)I will see what good it is either running or partsHe said it ran good but had belt or drive issues.I told him I would come back in a bit with my low flat bed trailer and a come along to get them ,He said we could load them now in my pick up box trailer with his crane,Of course I had to get pics of that it was the easist loading I have ever done,Old tractors can really FLY!

reed66 that's a model 100 with the wrong fender pan on the back of it. Free is always a good price. That model would have came with round fenders or no fenders at all. Still can't beat the price.

Ya beat me to it,I was looking at it today and it didnt look right,I figured out real quick thatsomeone added those and they are NOT anywhere close to fitting,I also posted it was a 101 which I was wrong it is a 100 when I got to the shop today I saw that and was going to correct that on here but ya got me!!Those will be coming off!.When I looked up a 100 I see they had round fenders(Wish it still had them)Or none at all.Next is to see if its worth fixing or more for parts machine to someone who needs it,Suprisingly the tires all aired right up and held and it rolls and steers well and the trans isnt stuck so we shall find out,I figured if it was just parts is still gotta be worth $100

yeah/ but sometimes if you part it out and sell it piece by piece, it gets to be a PITA while the remaining parts are tripped over, while waiting for someone to ask for this part, or that one.
not to mention the time you spend (labor) to dismantle it. at one point do you scrap the remaining carcass?
I'm more likely to part something out to fix another unit that I have, I can't remember the last time that I bought something for the sake of "parting out" to sell the parts/ if it is mostly complete when I get it, and appears that it will run, I have a hard time bringing myself to part something out.
It drives me nuts to see some perfectly good tractors get parted out with some minor issue that could be easily fixed, and even more so these guys that do so on a running working machine that doesn't have some major problem (cracked/ bent frame, etc) I do have 2 parts tractors but they came to me less than 1/2 complete already..... so they will donate parts to another that I have that I want to see completed.

I agree with you but Reed is in the business of repairing and selling tractors, mower, trimmers, etc.,etc. A little different there. Lot of times one can get more in repairing one than it is worth or can get out of it not counting labor. In those cases parting it out so others live, which is the whole concept of selling used parts. Or at least have them available for fixing up a customers unit or one taken in on trade. I normally don't buy something unless it has a part that I need to get another one going. Normally perfecty good tractors with minor issues do not get parted out.

I found a beautiful sears st10 on craigslist. Called the guy. He said he wouldnt sell the whole tractor just parts.

I asked him how much he thought he would make on parts. He said 300 to 400 bucks. I offered him 450 for the whole thing and he said no. Parts only.

I've been looking for a 100 to go with my original. Been tough to find in my area.

I had a collector I know of make an offer on it already (as is where is) of $100 ,He wants it for parts or restore,He has one but it is missing many parts I have,I told him I would think on it,I would like to see if and how it runs and that will determine for me IF I want to keep it to restore myself. And believe it or not my wife said NO she wouldnt take $100 for it??? She must like it !Generally as a rule I dont part out and sell parts of the older garden tractors,Only the newer lawn tractors.I would rather keep the old ones whole ,One reason is for me its easier and quicker to turn them around if I dont want them, All in 1 piece,The other reason is I hate seeing the old critters torn up .Luckily for me I have room for several good old garden tractors and attachments to be stored inside till restored or sold. When I take in a new tractor I generally find out if and how well it runs and if it moves first,This goes for any kind or age of tractor ,Then if its a lawn mower only not a garden tractor I find out if it could be one to fix up a bit and flip or if its parts,Either way it goes outside the back door of the shop to await its fate,Garden tractors get the same treatment but I decide if its gonna stay mine or be for sale,Then whats it gonna need to make it a good running one then its either fixed or it goes into storage across the road in the back of our other building inside out of the weather Till fixed or sold.We actually added a carport to the back of the building (Its walled in and only accesible from inside the main building)for old garden tractor and attachments storage ,Its about 1/2 full now.Talk about addiction!

The two I have found that werent running they were listed at 400 to 500.

100 bucks is an extreme low ball in my eyes.
I better pay more attention to my wife!!!!! I am going to see if it will in fact run and what it needs first before I decide anything on it.Even though I repair mowers and such for a living really I am still a bit of a newbie to the collector tractor scene and tractor values for me sometimes are hard to tack down. The same guy also wanted very badly to buy or trade me out of my Foley Belsaw chainsaw chain sharpener with reverse,I have that one and an Oregon one,He said he would trade me for a supposedly $700 Stihl unit (He used to have a small engine shop in a neighboring town but he got into financial trouble and lost everything)Cash he would do $200 on it,I gave $10 from a friend who bought it at an auction and didnt know how to really use it.I am not interested in selling it but wondered what its actually worth. You dont see them complete and working on Ebay so??

All depends on the area your buying in. Around here (Midwest) I seldom pay over $100 for a dead tractor unless it has an attachment that I can use. The asking price has no bearing on what the trtactor is worth as that is up to the individual. Last one I bought was a Cub Cadet 1650, International branded with a 42" snow thrower. Gave $125 for it without an engine. Snow thrower was finished this morning and is on my 1512 and ready for snow duty with 0 cash out for repares. Still have the tractor and have a 16 hp Tech engine that runs to go it it. I don't figure labor as it is a hobby, not a lively hood for me. If we all figured labor in on the things we gather up, fix up, etc. not being a business, we would all be broke or most would not be doing it.
