The cen-tech ones came from HF also, Marty. Guess I never paid any attention to a brand name on the new ones. Chinese I'm sure. I used to check the cen-tech ones back when they worked against drill bits to see if they were staying accurate. Always seemed good until they gave up last week.We have a pair of the centech at work, okay for doing in the ballpark measurements.
My son has a pair of HF calipers, we use them more than we ever thought.
My Cent-Tech calipers did the same thing, Jim. Didn't take long to figure out to remove the battery while stored. I left the battery in this new one to see if the same thing happens. The new one came with 3 batteries and I have a couple others too. They use the same one as the HF calipers. My HF calipers were nice when they were working even though I found out they killed a battery if left in. I was thinking those calipers I mentioned that had the dial they might be harder to read. If I don’t like them I’m going to order the same ones Chris suggested to you Doug. Thanks for posting.
The dial type at HF that I was looking at were both fractional and decimal. If you're a woodworker, you can get them in fractions, as well.
My dad was a machinist all his life. He had a whole set of those Mitutoyo calipers and micrometers. When he passed away my youngest sister went in banshee mode on me and my other sister. Them and a lot of other things disappeared.I hate my digital calipers.. When you go to use them the battery is dead! I have an old set of Mitutoyo that is my go to.. Anyone want my old set of digitals? Free for the taking!
That caliper looks to have a bigger screen yet over the ones I already bought, Sarge! Definitely can tell a Chinese person set up the website. "Craftmanship" rather than "Craftsmanship". I saved the link, just in case!I have vernier, dial and digital calipers, as a machinist I use them daily. As my eyes go, I find myself reaching for these more often than not:Aventor 6" Large Screen IP54 Electronic Caliper
One of the better Chinese brands, and the big numbers help!
Yeah, my better ones are Mitutoyo, both dial and digital. But the bigger screens are nice if +- 0.001" is good enough! We use the digital for quickie looks, but all our good calipers and depth gauges are dial type at work. Most are Mitutoyo also.
Those look pretty nice, Jim! The fraction function is cool!I had some birthday gift card money left on my Amazon card so I ordered these last night after researching several that were similar. After looking at the dial calipers my thoughts were like you guys mentioned too hard to see. These have a mm, fraction, and decimal function that I liked.
