Not new but saved from the trash. I was doing a job about ten years ago and the HO had this in his garbage. He said he lost the cord but thought it worked good. I just put it on a shelf until last week. Carol has two Dappled Willow bushes in front of the house they have gone wild. She trimmed the tops off back in the spring with some hand clippers. I’ve never had a use for these hedge trimmers until now. I need to round up a light duty cord because mine won’t stay plugged in because the cord won’t slide into the hook on the handle it’s too big. Other than that this thing worked great and made quick duty of the more serious trimming job. She won’t need them again until around fall so I’m going to take it apart and repack the grease and oil the knives some.

I have a corded PoulanPro chain-saw. I use it just fine as a hedge trimmer too. It's really quiet and the trigger allows for variable speeds.
With all things like this, even yours, use safety glasses.

I just use an old 1" paint bush and a bit of used oil to "paint" a little bit of oil on the reciprocating knives every so often while in use - seems to work good at keeping things lubricated on my 48 volt battery operated unit. The other thing I use mine for is where weeds and grass try to grow in areas that don't get weed whacked very often. The trimmer makes it easy to fell healthy burdock and thistles trimming them close to the ground - just make sure you are wearing gloves when working in thistle areas.

I had a black and decker set real similar to that. I bought it at a pawnshop in 2005ish. My first house had hedge rows down the entire length of the property. I used it quite often until I tore the hedges out and put up a privacy fence instead.

I let my mother in law borrow them to trim her hedges. They went on a cruise andd My crack head brother in law stole them (and a ton of other stuff from her garage) to pawn for drug money!

Those trimmers had a wild life. Wonder where they are today. Hopefully someone is still using them

Remember the days we had no choice but these..

Bill I actually was going to go to a couple of junk shops to try and find a pair of these. My dad had scrubs down the entire front of their house. He kept them immaculate year round. He had two pairs of them. When my mom recently passed away about five years ago my youngest sister went banshee on me and my older sister. A lot of my dads stuff disappeared. I would have loved to have had them I’m sure they had a lot more years of use.

The house I grew up in had hedges all the way around the front yard. I hated them. My mom had a black and Decker corded hedge cutter that had to have been late 60s/early 70s. It's probably still in the garage somewhere. I hated them more than I hated the hedges in the first place, and that cord I had to drag around. At some point I got a Sears (Poulan maybe) gas powered version and when it wanted to run it was such a much easier job of those hedges. I continued to have to cut them even after I moved out. I eventually bought a Stihl version, much better than the Sears ones were, and a couple of years after I got that Stihl hedge cutter the village decided to level the ditches, and put in storm drains and sidewalks.
The village took out the front row of those hedges, I eventually had to cut them off at the ground on the other 2 sides.
Ive done a couple of side jobs with the Stihl cutters but I doubt they have 15 hours on them from new, I haven't even tried to start that hedge cutter in at least 3 years.
