The lift table has been empty for a couple weeks. today I put the next project on the table.
It's a Wheel Horse C-100. The engine is blown up. I may repower it with an 18 hp Vanguard.
I'm wanting to make a plowing tractor with this one. Rick

Nice to have winter projects IF you have a warm place to work on them. My work table has been empty and pushed out of the way for the Mrs car since November when the corn wagon went in the garage. My tuck, her car, corn wagon, Ranger and all the other tools makes for a full messed up garage.

I recently installed a Vanguard 16 hp in a Wheel Horse Charger 12. When I figured out the placement of the engine for that tractor I also laid out and drilled the pattern in this C-100. Once I found my chain installing the Vanguard 18 hp in the C-100 was easy. It fits under the hood with just a little rubbing on the left side against the air cleaner. Plenty of room for the battery and gas tank. I need to route the control cables and do the wiring. Then find a pulley and belt. Rick

Thank you Bismarck Lawn and Garden!!!!
The local mower shop is where I got the Briggs Vanguard that I'm using for this project. I went over to their shop this morning to get some parts for this build. I wanted an ignition switch, solenoid, idler pulley, fuel filter, and the grommet and shut off that inserts into the bottom of the fuel tank.
I also wanted to talk about fitting an electric clutch onto the 1" crankshaft, to run the mule drive.
These guys used to be a Wheel Horse dealer. Jim asked why I didn't put the Wheel Horse system back on. When I said something about the Kohler having a larger crankshaft and my components wouldn't fit, Jim said wait a minute. After rummaging around in the back room he brought me out the pulley and sleeve needed for installing my components on a 1" crankshaft. He remembered that Wheel Horse used to sell a tractor with a Briggs and Stratton engine with a 1" crankshaft. They were used parts, but in good shape.
Best part is they were FREE! The centerline of the crankshaft is lower and further forward in the chassis than what the original Kohler was. So I had to fab and relocate the lower mounting plate for the pivot shaft. And lengthen the rod from the PTO lever. The top bracket was a direct bolt on.
Once installed the pulley alignment to the mule drive is a little off, but livable. I know for sure when I get the mower deck installed.
Still need to do the electrical and fuel. Reinstall guards, floorboards, fenders, and seat. Rick

It's ALIVE!! Got the electrical and fuel done today. Put in fresh oil and fired it up. It is kinda loud with the straight pipes on it, but it runs.
Tomorrow I may get to take it for a test run if I get the new belt length figured out. Rick

Got the drive belt figured out. Put the tins back on and test drove it this morning. Took some pictures of this one and the Charger Twelve that got a 16 hp Vanguard installed. I put the mower deck up on a table and started on it. It didn't take much to remove the guard and clean it. Turned out all it needed was a new idler pulley, belt, and lubrication, and blades sharpened, I'll install it tomorrow and determine the new belt length to the pto. Once that is done I'll start on the hitch. I have both , a slot hitch and a sleeve hitch for Wheel Horse. It will probably be easier to find a sleeve hitch plow than the slot hitch especially in a 10" or 12" size. I need to locate/fabricate a seat back also. Rick

Good to see this and real nice work Rick!

I've got the same C series sitting in my shop waiting for its heart to be installed. More likely something to the tune of 48 cube opposed Onan. I was told the 8 speed was a stout tranny and could easily handle the extra power. Hope to see yours at our next common gathering!
Eric

Looks like a rear discharge deck.
I have never had the chance to run one like that, but I really like the idea. I have run a tow behind swisher before, it was rear discharge, as well as a 6', finish mower behind a bigger tractor and noticed how they rarely if ever plugged up. And no windrows of grass clippings, nice and even. More mower manufacturers should have done their decks that way.

Nice work.
That’s a great looking tractor.

Rear discharge. Anyone notice that rear discharge deck tractors have bad rear tires? I’ve seen several that the insides weathercheck bad.
