Thank you Bismarck Lawn and Garden!!!!
The local mower shop is where I got the Briggs Vanguard that I'm using for this project. I went over to their shop this morning to get some parts for this build. I wanted an ignition switch, solenoid, idler pulley, fuel filter, and the grommet and shut off that inserts into the bottom of the fuel tank.
I also wanted to talk about fitting an electric clutch onto the 1" crankshaft, to run the mule drive.
These guys used to be a Wheel Horse dealer. Jim asked why I didn't put the Wheel Horse system back on. When I said something about the Kohler having a larger crankshaft and my components wouldn't fit, Jim said wait a minute. After rummaging around in the back room he brought me out the pulley and sleeve needed for installing my components on a 1" crankshaft. He remembered that Wheel Horse used to sell a tractor with a Briggs and Stratton engine with a 1" crankshaft. They were used parts, but in good shape.
Best part is they were FREE! The centerline of the crankshaft is lower and further forward in the chassis than what the original Kohler was. So I had to fab and relocate the lower mounting plate for the pivot shaft. And lengthen the rod from the PTO lever. The top bracket was a direct bolt on.
Once installed the pulley alignment to the mule drive is a little off, but livable. I know for sure when I get the mower deck installed.
Still need to do the electrical and fuel. Reinstall guards, floorboards, fenders, and seat. Rick
