ET2 Electric Massey

Those are cool Doug, but somehow a tractor that doesn't make a bunch of noise just don't seem right to me.......;)

I replaced the drive belt with a chain and you would be surprised how much noise the trany and drive chain make, I was.

I'd like to try my hand at building an electric tractor.

Seems easy enough. A 36v or 48v dc shunt motor running constant 3600 rpm would do nicely....

ET2 went to the garden tractor Pulls today. Only 4 other GT's showed up so it became a test and tune day.
I must of went down the track 8 or 9 times, each time more weight was put on the sled.
No sign of power loss from the batteries, even on the last/hardest pull.
I ended up 2nd by about 3 inches, out pulled by a Cub Cadet that the owner said weighed about 970lbs, I figure my tractor was about 950lbs.
I out pulled a Massey MF12g with wheel weights and a JD318 with front and rear weights, the JD was too heavy on the front for sure and the Massey MF12g drive belts were slipping to much.
I started out running in 4th gear, after 4 pulls went down to 3rd gear.
4th was high amp draw, pegged the meter, 3rd was much lower, but the amp draw rose as the sled got heavier.
Last pull sled stopped the tractor dead, front end in the air, rear wheels spinning.
Glad I went to this pull, got to run the tractor and learned a lot about it.

Doug, it sounds like your getting dialed in for sure. Do you guys all weigh in and do they have weight classes? We always made sure we were within a couple ounces to the limit with the fuel in it, of course you don't have to worry about that weight.

No scales at this event and wheels.

Hard to have a fair pull when when you have to just trust each other. We always had a set of scales at our pulls. Just an old balance beam set with a bigger platform on to fit the tractors.

This was more of a fun test and tune day.
I never went down the track so many times at 1 event, usually you get 2 pull's with 1 tractor in 2 different class's
I got 8 or 9 pulls at this event.
Gonna go again tomorrow with the E15 ElecTrak and try to get it pulling better.

Doug did you run the E-15? If so how did it do?
Can you give us a rundown on the current configuration for the E2? Inquiring minds want to know. (remember that commercial?)
I've got a couple old sears sitting around here begging for something different to be done with them. Rick

E15 does not do as well as ET2 in the pulls for several reasons.
ET2 current configuration.
weighs 750lbs with me on it.
4 x group 51 12volt batteries, 48 volt system.
300 amp controller with foot pedal for speed control.
Briggs & Stratton Etek motor, 48volt, 3500rpm, 6hp continuous, 15hp peek.
#40 chain drive, motor to trany, 2 to 1 ratio, motor spins 2x, trany 1x. Chain drive is noisy.
I use 4th or 3rd gear, heavier the tractor or/and tougher the track 3rd gear
23 - 10.50 x 12 rear tires.
