Hour meter on Case

An hour meter was on the Case when we got it. Not hooked up. But was at one time, I’d say. Aftermarket thing some one had installed. Showed 331 hours. So I put power to it and didn’t work. Kinda figured it wouldn’t. So being the way I am, let’s take it apart and see if we can fix it. Got it apart. Neat how it works. The coil has a one side of a set of points. The other part of the points is on a lever that sets the clock in motion. When the points touch, it sends power to the coil. It quickly pulls in and throws the other half of the points on the lever ahead and sets the clock in motion. This happens till the point on the lever comes back to the other point on the coil. Makes connection, powers the coil and throws the lever. This keeps happening while power is hooked up. Any way. Had to clean the points, so a connection could be made and oiled up the moving parts. It now works. I will reset to zero and put in in the Case and hook it up to the run setting on the key switch. So the number increments from 0 to 9 are 6 minutes apart for each one, 60 minutes. So I tested the time between each increment, 0 to 1, 1 to 2. And they are 6 minutes apart.

Good deal Noel now that you have experience I'll send you a few to work on  just kidding back when those things were about $30.00+ I opened up some and did that some worked for many hours others not but now that they are generally less than $10.00 I don't mess with them

Ya Gary, sure are cheap enough now if a fella wanted one. I just like fooling with that stuff. Broke any way, so I can’t make it any worse by fooling with it.

Well back in the tractor and hooked up. And it works ! Reset to Zero. Good reminder to change the oil and do service. Every 25 hours.

Yea I understand Noel I mess around with things like that just to see if I can and like the fun of it I have hourmeters on most all of my tractor great way to keep track of maintenance. Looks good what is the switch next to it is that for the PTO?

Yes Gary. It’s for the electric pto. I should of figured that the electric pto was not original by where the switch is located. Looks like the hydraulic cooler, in front of the fan, is not orginal either.

Big day for the Case today. Moved one cord of wood, cleaned up the saw dust and chips, put in the trailer. Took the trailer to the garden and spread the saw dust and chips out. Dug two plants of blue potatoes. 10 lbs, give or take, of nice blues. 0.7 hours on the clock now. Big day. Hehe.

Noel, wait for it.... "you have too much time on your hands", good job on fixing it. I bought a new, older style for my 1655 if I ever get to restoring it lol.

I want your problem of too much time on your hands, Noel! Maybe in about 2 years! I was like Daniel---the guts of that meter look almost like new so why not try to get it working! Good job! Eat a coulple of those Blue Potatoes for me! Getting hungry thinking about it!
