Here's a screenshot of a wheel I saw in a video on YouTube entitled "Wheel lugs you've never seen before". They were on an early Allis Chalmers IU industrial tractor. The lugs are spring loaded and remain down in between two solid rubber tires until pulled up by compressing the springs, and turned 90 degrees, more or less. A tool with handle/lever was provide to lift the lugs. They are held in place by the spring tension. I think I'd like to build a pair the appropriate size for a garden tractor. Wheels with bands welded on for the rubber to attach to and semi truck tire caps found on the roadside would work for the tires, I think. I have already picked up a couple of the truck caps. Long carriage bolts and angle iron for the lugs and rods. I don't know where to look for springs the right size though. Heavy equipment valve springs, maybe more than one on each lug?
