This summer, one of my show Friends asked if I would bring a couple of my engines and a couple of tractors to the Jamestown community fair at the end of the year. He was attempting to grow the tractor and agriculture equipment categories at the fair.
the only flight to affair in the state of Pennsylvania as you have to leave the stuff there and till the fair closes, which in this case was 9 p.m. Saturday night. Made for a late-night getting home, but the show was very enjoyable.
Eight different rust nuts brought parts of their collection down. I brought my
68 Sears super 12 & rototiller with sm trailer.
1919 type M 1.5 McCormick Deering
1930 New Way engine EH
1950 LETZ corn grinder (flat belted to the New Way
And Mr Roper with FEL to load all this stuff.
The Chairperson brought a small sampling of his very large collection of Walk Behinds. Planet Jr, Rural King, Viking, JLO, Empire, etc.
Another Exhibitor took some of his David Bradley units including his 1939 Handyman Rider.
Hand Operated drill press, Pump driven by an A Briggs, 702 WH, a 4 digit Cub O (pre-production, belt drive), Brace and Bit display, a nicely restored Briggs Washing Machine engine and 12 Farm Tractors.
The display was small for a show, but Lots of foot traffic.
We were in the second half of the bunny barn, which led to some concessions from both groups, but we got thru it. We started the New Way indoors a few times and had a big exhaust fan to take out any fumes from any of the engines that we did run. I hope I can say truthfully but no rabbits were harmed in the making of this show. It may have been a hare-raising experience. (Seriously, it was more noise than they have had to deal with in years past and they were polite about it all). Next year we may be in a separate area.
Loran and KK went with me one nite and did rides and stuff. We walked the Midway and the barns and then I went back to the display to demonstrate.
Saturday, I was able to be there all afternoon. Took the M outside and ran it in Half hour bursts and talked with people about what these engines were used for and that it turned 100 this year. Had a ball.
Thanks to the Fair Committee and to Mr Hunt for their gracious hosting.
Pictures to come, my phone's acting odd.
