JI Case manure spreader repair

We put a new floor in this spreader about 25 years ago and now its time to do it again. Dad needed some help with it so I got out the sawzall and cut the old floor out while he used some bolt cutters to clip off the rusty bolts. We have some new fir boards that we cut on our bandsaw mill to replace the plywood and that will be covered with a heavy plastic sheet made just for that purpose.

Took the Gator up to the barn to retrieve the fir boards. They will need a little trimming, but should work nicely. Also snapped a pick of the plastic sheeting.

The thought of it was worse than the actual job. It took around an hour to get it done.

The plastic sheeting is trimmed to size and boards are all fitted and treated with a preservative. Now lots of drilling and bolting.

Just used galvanized bolts.

I don't see why would be crappy my self. A pressure washer used before the project cleans lots of things up before working on them.

Don't have a pressure washer? take it to a quarter washer, around here takes a buck fifty to start them going.
Think I would have looked for cedar to make boards out of.

We put that plastic in the bottom of our grain truck, and stuff slides out so much easier. Your bed chains will thank you for it!

The floor replacement is almost finished. Just chain adjustment and install the front flap.

The spreader got its first test yesterday. Everything went well so we'll keep going until the bin is empty.

That's not a big spreader but almost looks bigger than the tractor. How many horsepower is the tractor?

The tractor is an IH 284 and listed at 28 PTO and 21 drawbar HP.

The last load of manure was hauled out yesterday. Now it will be used to spread Cedar chips on the cattle lane. Got the first load on today.

Shot a video of dad spreading the wood chips. The chain is disconnected from the rear beater so the chips aren't thrown all over.

Works great. What is the reason for for the chips on the cow path? Healthy hooves or keeping mud under control?
