Started with the first mow this year. Mow about 20 min on flat ground with no issues. First time I started up an incline, which I have mowed numerous time over the last 5 years with this machine, it suddenly died. Rolled to flatter ground and it started up but would not mow that, or other similar inclines. Ran into the same situation when mowing with left side low. Have full flow of fuel out the line from the tank. Replaced the fuel filter , it has full flow. Checked the output side of the fuel pump and it look like plenty of fuel coming out, lot more than that engine could burn. This morning I started it, ran a full throttle and sprayed a lot of carb cleaner through it. Didn't change a thing. Removed the carburetor and found some water-gas mix stuff in the bottom. Sprayed more carb cleaner through it, blew it out with air run it in the Ultrasonic cleaner two cycles. Blew it all out and back on the motor. First try on a side hill and it died dead as a doornail. Rolled back to flat ground and it fired right off. Only two things I have not replaced is the output line to the carb and putting on an electric fuel pump. Any idea out there?

I saw where the stationary use engines would stop the engine but not on the GT's. Safety factor where if the engine was killed on an incline it would free wheel to flat ground. Possibly a safety switch some place, but only on left side or up hill is what throws a curve at me. Don't bother downhill or right side low. This engine is probably around a 1993 as that is the year the tractor was built.

I knew the seat switches had been by passed before I bought the machine but check anyway, Two wires were twisted together could have bee touching the seat frame when leaning to the left but both wires went to ground anyway . Taped them up good hoping for the best and got the worst. Darn good place to look though Chris. Tried driving it on the slope and squirting fuel down the carb when it acted up. This choked it down and out faster so it is already flooding, Was harder to restart on flat ground also. Going to replace the fuel line between the pump nd the carb and put on a new carb. Float is not adjustable on them as it is all plastic. Nothing to bend that woulg stay in place. After 33 years something has to be wore some and with tight tolerance and that steep a slope I think the carb just plain wore out. Time till tell.
Have you checked in the fuel tank? Depending on where the fuel line hook up is located, there might be something rolling around in the tank that blocks the fuel line outlet.
Blew the line out backwards to make sure it was clear - it was. So was the vent.

Engine, thinking real strong fuel issue. But why only on left side low or nose up. Rest of the time runs great as long as I want it to. I headed it for a left side low angle that is normally mowed with no issues. As soon as it started to falter I squirted a bit of gas directly into the air intake. It died immediately so I think it is flooding itself out when on the left side low situation. Going to try a new carb on it Sunday morning and see what happens.

The strange thing about this issue is it just popped up during the winter storage. The areas that are killing it have always been mowed for 5 years with this unit as it has the pressurized oil system. No suddenly this year it don't want to mow them any more. Just over 1000 hours but uses very little oil, like half a cup every 3-4 hours of mowing.

I once had a little Massey 85 (8hp) that would falter badly but only when turning right. I kept thinking fuel issue as we had the very same issue with our 130hp Massey 2705. Turned out the big boy had crap in tank that would be slung to fuel intake port on left side of tank. But the little guy had it's kill wire with insulation worn off and turning right even at slow speed would cause it to hit the corner of sn engine mount.

Ordered a new China carb Saturday and put it on this morning. Got it running this afternoon and mowed on banks and flat ground just fine. I think that old carb after 1000 hours and 30+ years just got tired and quit. Cheep fix at about $25.
