I picked up today what I am pretty sure is a MF16. The serial tag is missing.IMG_20250510_143929422_HDR.jpgIMG_20250510_143910577_HDR.jpgIMG_20250510_143859100_HDR.jpgThe engine is a 1974 16 HP Kohler and the grill on the right side doesn't have a hole for the exhaust which leads me to believe this is a 16. Anyone else know of any other differences between a MF 14 and 16? Or is there a place the serial number maybe stamped on the frame?
It was listed on Facebook as a snapper, for $150. The guy I bought it from really didn't know what he had, I did let him know it was a Massey. It does come with a set of heavy, 30-40 lbs, homemade wheel weights. I will have to post a picture of later. Now where to store it before I restore it.

Looks like another great score, no matter what it is! You will figure out the storage situation, Ted. Did you get a change to try to fire it up? That trailer is working out great for you!

No I have not tried to fire it up. I just found a new carb for a kohler sitting on the shelf going to put it on and try tomorrow. Funny thing is I have 3-4 different batteries that will fit it. The small Garden tractor batteries I am short 2 for the other tractors.

The trailer works good, this 16 has the wider rims. The rear wheels are on the top of the angle iron. The MF 12 I picked up last week fit just right in the trailer. I bought a receiver hitch mount to bolt the trailer tongue to use a winch with but I found out today it doesn't work the best with the trailer tilted up. I am going to mount it to the front of the trailer deck.

It runs :D. The carb I took a picture of I am not sure if it is any good. I couldn't get it to run with it. I pulled on of a 10hp I rebuilt and ran. I did have to replace the tank valve for gas to run to the carb. The wiring all need redone. The starter at first did not want to turn, I pulled it out and sprayed pb blaster on the bushing and it worked. I had to hotwire the coil, I was surprised it had spark. The best news is the hydro works fine. It just needs all the linkage freed up.
I plan on doing a full frame up restoration on it which is going to take a while with all the rust.

Its always great when they start and run and that the hydro is working good deal

Snapper built these and the Massey models. Only difference between the 14 and 16 is the engine and decals. The Massey usually came with Sundstrand hydro, while Eaton (finned/round) hydro on the Snapper badged.badge. that's a 76 year with those extended footrests!

I need to get the garage straightened out to make room, and then start tearing the 16 down for restoration. There is a lot of rust on it, lots of panel and body work. The last complete restoration I had a wooden table to put the tractor to work on, but it fell apart and was taken to the landfill. I am looking at putting it on a frame similar to a car rotisserie. I have a homemade splitting stand I used on my Case 530, I think I can adapt it to work for this 16.

I was going to do the 12G i just picked up first, but decided it won't take much to get 12G in shape to use and see if there are any other issues before restoration.
