Hi all. Today I purchased 1960 Pony built in Lille France. I am having problems getting info regarding engine oil and hydraulic fluid spec. The Pony is a four cylinder petrol with a 6 volt electrical system. All help and info will be gratefully received.

This is what I found on tractor data. Only built till 1957.
May not help in your search. But any thing you find on the Canadian built Pony’s , could be the same.

Noel

Thanks Noel. That’s a great help. I am collecting the Pony this morning. When I get it back to my workshop here in France I hopefully will get some more info regarding engine serial numbers and such like. John.

Hi Johnyboy, congrats on your new to you tractor the MH Pony I have an Earthmaster and it has the same engine its a Continental N62 62 cubic inch 4 cylinder originally I believe it called for 30 wt oil I use 10
w-30 in mine oil capacity is 4 US Qt. as for hydraulic oil I use universal tractor fluid. I seconded the posting of pictures

Thanks for that MNGB. I have found a free service manual giving the oil spec. It’s saying SAE 10 for the hydraulics which sounds about right..In answer to your question Noel regarding attachments the Pony has all of the lifting gear and a cross bar ..Hopefully when I have the oil I can see if the hydraulics are ok. I have found one of the footplates missing, funnily enough it’s the one above the hydraulic valve attachment so I will have to pay a visit to the local tractor graveyard here in France and see if there is one laying around. I am not sure if I mentioned it before but the engine is a 4 cylinder petrol Simca . I am still trying to find out the exact yearbof manufacture but some of the serial numbers are unreadable..I will post some pictures with this post. They are not the best as the light in the workshop isn’t that fantastic. Thanks again for your advice.

I would use 10w 30 oil in the engine. Or 30w. Use a non detergent oil for the hydraulics. Detergent oil will foam which Is not good.

Hi MNGB. Sorry for the delay with a reply. The Pony has a Simca 9 4cylinder petrol engine. 1.2lt. 15.8 hp.I am still struggling to find the exact year of manufacture and also the exact model. After some elimination I believe it’s an 812 and not an 820. The latter being fitted with the Peugeot Petrol or the Homogan diesel block. The guy I bought it off said it was registered in 1960 but that came from his elderly father.!! I am leaning to around 1958/59. There is very little information here in France. All I know is it was built in Marquette Les Lille France. The serial number on the plate and chassis doesn’t seem to match with data that I have researched. More work required methinks.

I would like to see a picture of the very rear of the tractor. I have a 1949 pony (American MFG) and it has a manual lift system for the plow and cultvators and a lever on th eright side like yours for the lift.

I also have a 1954 Pacer simular to the pony but more HP (16) that has hydrlic lift system. No lever on the right side to lift tools like a plow or the cultvators.

See yours has the optinal wheel weights all around. must be some heavy dirt to be turned to need weights on th efront also.

Hi alleyyooper. My Pony has rear hydraulics although the reservoir is empty. This was pointed out by the last owner. The tractor has the lever on the right hand side which I assume is for a mower attachment or similar. There is a part of the lifting system underneath which is missing. After some lubrication the rear pto and pulley goes in and out of gear but I
have yet to try this with the motor running. Today I have worked out after some more delving that the Pony was built between 1954 and 57 and not sixty as I originally was led to believe. I will post some pictures of the rear with this reply.

From the cylinder underneath there are some flat bars each side (memory working I hope.) goes to trangler plates which work as cams to raise and lower the front cultvators.
