Model Train clearing snow

REal neat. That larger scale is much easier to work with then the HO and N. I tried a couple different camera on my HO scale engines years ago but they were to sensitive to movement and the slightest movement would be amplified and the picture never stopped vibrating making it fuzzy. This was 15 years ago so lot of improvements have been made sense then.

Looks like a club layout where several trains can be run at one time. Nice video too. A friend and I spent a day at a yard in Council Bluffs Iowa taking measurements of a gondola with a V plow and best we could of a large cement coal tipple. I made two different models of them, on in HO scale for me and one in O for my friend. Those were fun projects. Found the scale rulers the other day again.

The are specific to the scale of the railroad your modeling, such as O, HO, S, N, Z. HON3 is in there too. A bit different than the 1/4" scale etc. If I remember right HO scale would be 1:87, meaning it is 1/87th the size of a real train.

I had one for the slot cars, Rog. Don't know what I did with it though. HO scale has a much looser definition with cars. 1/87th at the beginning then they morphed out to 1/64th. Aurora pretty much led the way moving HO cars to 1/64th. They retained the same wheelbases, except for 4 gear chassis but got wider mainly.

I ran into that when trying to fine true HO scale autos and trucks without going the name brand high $$ ones. The 1/64th worked as long as they were away from the viewer and not placed with the HO units. Putting them in between buildings made the buildings look larger. Never did get into the model race cars much.

Yes, to me even 1/87th slot cars seemed too big compared to HO trains and buildings, Rog.

I have those too Roger. I used them a lot when scratch building and cutting scaled lumber. Can you tell me or post a pic of the scaled rulers or what ever you have. If I don’t have what you have I’ll buy them from you if you’re not needing them anymore. What ever else you might have for bench working I might be interested in too. I’m trying my best to get back into it I miss it a lot.

Will try and remember to get some pics this afternoon. Had to sit in a very uncomfortable chair for an hour yesterday and my back is letting me know about it today. Stimulator sure helps a bunch though.

When I had the Garden Railroad outside, I scratch built several of the buildings, tunnel arches, etc. out of cedar. Most was recut to 3/8 or 1/2" square stock. Woodmark is about 45 miles from me and any cedar they have that is not usable for their business they bundle up in 3' x 5' bundles and sell it for $8 loaded on your trailer. I got one bundle and still have a lot of it left. Poorer stuff works good for fireplace starters.

Will work on getting decent photos tomorrow. They are stainless and hard to get a clear photo without a bunch of glare even without a flash.

That sounds like what I remember, Rog, and I think I gave the one I had to a guy I knew that was building balsa airplanes now that I think about it. Can't remember if they flew or static models. He was an Air Force guy so probably got stationed somewhere else and long retired by now. They were pretty useless with HO slot cars.
