This is the tractor I was I found on Facebook marketplace. Tractor was not running and my mistake was not trying to get it running before I started the tear down. Everything has been removed from the tractor to the last nut and bolt and take down to bare metal and primed and most is painted. Random pictures through out my progress I will post . I have a lot because that’s how I kept track of how everything went back together. So bare with me first time posting pictures may take me a bit

Well I’ve always wanted liked the look of the older GT tractors but I live in New Mexico and you just don’t see them for sale here. So when I seen the Ad on Marketplace tractor and plow for $100 I thought this must be a scam I messaged the man he gave me the address and I went to look at it I knew from the minute I seen it I was going to buy it if not to rebuild it but to resell it. I joined the MTD Facebook group and I caught the bug I guess seeing some of the tractor people had restored/rebuilt I decided I would give it a shot at rebuilding it. My intentions was just to rebuild the motor. But the more I looked at it the more I wanted to paint it. Then I said well look at the frame it needs work and so here I am. Lol

You aren't wasting any time! I have your tractor's little brother, a MTD 660 that has been sitting in a shed for 13 or 14 years now. I mowed with that little tractor for 30 years and never got rid of it. That's the tractor in my avatar picture with my now 32 year old daughter on it---LOL!

I have to weld up the hole in the frame get it ready for prime and paint. I have yet to locate a heat shield and bracket for the engine. I’m guessing I may have go without one or figure out how to fabricate one. Also need to locate hose for the hydro and tires and the Dash I have no clue yet.
That’s where I’m at as of now. Once I get the frame done I can start going back tog with it I did buy needle bearings for the front spindles and new bearings for the hubs.IMG_3941.jpegIMG_3960.jpegIMG_3980.jpegIMG_3981.jpeg

Aw man that’s great that you still have it I don’t know that I could ever get rid. It’s part of the family for sure. Everyone I’ve talked to said they are great tractors and built to last if maintained obviously. Thanks for sharing this.

FYI... it is not advisable to run these small air cooled engines without having all of the engine tins in place... they are the cooling system and without them you run a very high risk of over heating the engine. Also... I dont see a fan on the front of the hydro unit.
