Need opinions. To buy or not to buy ?

Well, this came home today. Now, it’s not mine. My son paid for it. It’s here until he clears a spot in his garage for it. It runs good we drove it around the house thru the mud and snow. Motor sound good too. Motor is a 1989 from what I can figure out. Tractor is a 1975. Pto doesn’t not work. Which is what he told us. Looks to be melted. Will have get the grill off for a better look and testing.
But doesn’t charge. Stator is showing 32 AC volts at full throttle. So that’s great. The regulator is still mounted in the tractor. So may never have been hooked up when the engine was changed. So could be easy fix. Motor is quiet. Steering is easy. Deck needs a bit of work fix two fair size holes. We have a deck off our MF 14 that’s good if needed. Should make a quiet, easy to use, grass cutter. This is what my son wants. Has a nice comfy seat on it.

Noel

Just a quick update on the MF 16 my son bought. He has fixed the pto. We had another one for it. Old one was melted beyond recognition. Has the charging fixed. Amp gauge works. Has the wiring fixed up has head lights installed and working. Tires all seem to be holding air. Battery is very good that came with it.
Just need to but the deck from our MF 14 on it and get a belt and she’ll be cutting grass.

What NO wash and wax?

We didn't have much too much wind with the rain here yesterday, Chris, but today was a different story. No rain today though. I agree, he can keep that stuff up there---LOL!

Very cool your son has the MF16 ready to mount the deck, Noel. Can't wait to see pics of it in action!

Had the MF 16 out today cutting grass. We did a few service things to it today. Works great. Cuts grass great. We had it our last week to cut grass too. And we did a fuel usage test. Not real scientific but just give us an idea what it uses. Just for entertainment sakes. Now this MF 16 only has a k301 12 hp engine. Lances favourite engine. Was changed by somebody and not the fella we got it from. Any way, 2.6 litres per hour. Give or take a little. So it about the same as the Case 224 and a little less than some of my other tractors. Had lots of power to run the 48” deck in the long grass.

Looks like it does a great job, Noel! I've never seen what a 48" MF deck looks like. Does it have rollers or wheels? My MF610 deck is 42" and has the long roller on the rear. Then there is a short anti-scalp roller on the front that doesn't ride on the ground all the time. I really like how it cuts, especially since about 10 years ago when I found out how important it is to level the deck---LOL!

So the little k301 can run a hydro trans and a 48" deck.... gee who would've thought. Lolol
Nice to see it being put back into service, Ive always liked the look of those mid 70s MFs.

just for the record tho... while the 301 is my favorite K series engine..... the 16hp Briggs is actually my favorite cast iron single ;)
