Picked up a Simplicity 3415H

If its the right carb there will be a choke lever on the back side that will connect to the Z bend, kind of fun to install but its doable, if the engine is running pretty god I would not remove and dissemble the carb I'd just remove the idle screw shoot some carb cleaner in then blow it clean with air do the same for the main jet just remove the needle screw and do the same. good deal on the lights

I took the carb off this evening to clean for tomorrow. Just looking down the throat this is way too clean for an almost fifty year old GT. I’m thinking now it’s an aftermarket carb. This would explain what I’m thinking now is a manual choke lever. If you notice the screw holding the choke lever has a spring that puts tension on the lever until you move it to keep it in place. Here is a pic of mine and an aftermarket carb for sale on eBay. The choke levers look identical.

The 7116 I have had a bad carb leak as soon as you turn the gas on. I bought an aftermarket flo-jet off of amazon. The choke lever on it was exactly the same as the original. And guess what? It leaked also. It is a Venseri 392587 carb. (China Clone) for $36.

Zippo on YouTube has a great video on how to deal with the flo-jet leaks. It actually leaks where the emulsion tube seats into the body then drains in the ventura. I’ll dig that up and post that.

My choke cable wouldn’t reach the carb as it was setup. I had to put the lever on the other side. It’s a little tight looping right over the frame rail then immediately entering into the carb but it works good. I had the typical flo jet leak so I took the emulsion tube out cleaned it then reset it as the video I’ll share down below. I have done three of these this way and it stops the leak.

I took the deck off and got it stripped down for sand blasting. So thankful the deck was in good shape under the belt guards. I do have a damaged center spindle shaft. It looks like the woodruff key semi sheared and egg shaped the pulley hole. Someone did a nice fix by milling a flat spot on the shaft and made a special shim and key combination. I also have a crack on the deck edge where the grass deflector attaches. That’s a simple weld. Since my other deck is beyond repair I’ll donate that center spindle to this one. I’m going to make another post of this deck rebuild incase someone wants to follow along without looking at the tractor find. Thanks everyone!

You got a great deal, Jim! Pretty obvious the previous owner just didn't want to work on it. You will be mowing in no time!

Jim, I picked up a 3415 S from a friend last year as part of a deal to do tree trimming and felling. It's a 1972 model as that was the only year they made the 3415. That was the year I graduated from 8th grade. The owner bought it 11 years ago and thought he would enjoy it. After ½ the season, he decided he didn't want to use it any longer and parked it beside his shed. By the time I got there, he was so fed up with people stopping to ask about it, he told me to load it up and get it out of there. The engine turns free by hand easily. It is a Briggs 15. The tires all need replaced as a result of the elements. The lights are stuck in the sockets. Once those are cleared out, I'm changing all lighting to super LED brightness and ag tires are going on the back.
The plan is to do a total restoration once I start using it. I'll be using it for light farming in the fields for market farming. The unit will be shown at local fairs here in Ohio.

Welcome aboard glad to have you. You will enjoy this tractor. One word of concern if you’re going to mow with it stay with the 16” front tires. I went with 18” and while turning sharply they want to rub the deck causing the other side to dip down scalping the grass. The 15 hp Briggs is strong and reliable. Post us some pics and your progress.
