Predator 212 problem

Well I am back on the wood splitter for the widow lady down the street. I had to put it away for the winter for other projects and winter maintenance. We had the Ice Storm of a lifetime about a month ago and now we have hundreds of trees down in our neighborhood alone that will need to be cut and split. She has two lots full that need to be cut.
I put a new carb on it and replaced all the gaskets, made sure it has fuel , Spark, oil and air. It will run on gas injected into the plug hole, injected into the carb and once it ran on its own for about 2 min until it just quit. It will run as described above but not without adding fuel via the carb or in the plug hole. The gas tank looks clean but I may take it off tomorrow and see if it has junk in it or if the fuel line has collapsed from the use of ethanol fuel. The gas will flow from the tank with the line off the carb. I will also change the oil, the engine only takes 1/2 quart of oil. The air filter appears to be clean as I can see light thru it. When it runs it runs great and sounds good.
Not sure what I am missing but nthere hjads to be something. This is the second new carb I put on it the first one would not even get fuel to the bowl.
I will post more tomorrow if I can get at it. The wife and I are still cleaning up the front of the property from the ice storm. We have about 10 more trailer loads of limbs pine and such to go yet. We have already hauled away 13 loads to the debris site.
If you have any suggestions feel free and I appreciate your input.
Have great night and stay safe and healthy.
Roger

I think they have a tiny screen in the gas tank. Maybe when fuel demand happens, debris clogs the screen but then falls back off when no fuel flow happens?

Hope you get it figured out Roger. Sounds like it will be needed!

Are you sure the fuel valve (lever under the choke) is turned on and it is letting fuel run thru? On is with the lever towards the crankshaft. I was having issues with the Predator I put on my MF8 starting and it ended up being the fuel valve was turned off.

Yea...The fuel lever is right under the choke lever. I know for me at least they can get a little confusing which ones which and what direction they need to be in..

Thanks guys, I made sure that was on at least as far to the on position as it can go with the plastic guard on it. That was my first thought. also. This had sat for about 4 maybe 5 years without running and the original carb was toast. Had so much junk in it it could not be cleaned. We figured a new carb would be easy off on and running. I had checked the oil and it was on the marks on the stick but maybe it is to low to let it run. Today I will change the oil with a new 1/2 quart of 10-w30 and see how that goes. Thanks again.

First thing I would do is take the float bowl off, turn the gas on and see that you have a good flow of gas. Drips don't get it, it should be a good flow past the needle and seat.
Right after it quits check and see if it engine still has good spark. Do you have one of those spark indicators that goes in the sparkplug wire?

Pulled the bowl and gas flows but I don't think it is flowing free. I will take the tank off soon to see if it is dirty or compromised. As for spark I have the spark tester and it is on between the wire and plug and there is plenty of spark. Thanks for the info. I am still checking. I will let you know how it turns out.

Are the gaskets on either side of the isolator in place and good? Had one with a torn gasket and it wouldn’t run without spray. Also had one I didn’t get the carb lined up right and it didn’t seal on the isolator, even though it tightened down right.

What brand carburetor is it? The only ones I’ve found that are worth a darn are marked ruXing.

Well I have spent a lot of time on this engine here lately. Changed the carb to a new one. It will run for about 1 min and die. Like it is running out of gas. Tried another carb, same result. Took fuel tank off and the fuel line both are clear and free of any obstructions. Noe the vent on the tank seems to be restricted a bit. It acts just like it runs out of gas when this happens. Next to try is to loosen the gas cap and see if that helps. All gaskets and such are new and tightened. Heading back out now to tinker a bit on it.
