Sears suburban

I'm hoping to rework my deck this year and use it as a back up. It's in bad shape pretty much all spindles are seized. I was working on it last summer but got busy with work and didn't have wrenches and sockets big enough but hopefully this summer will be different.

I still have thorn blisters Months later. I was covered in those small brown thorns that you can only see with a magnifying glass.
Here is the 50" deck before and after.

I picked prickly pear cactus fruit for the wife to make jelly with a few years. The first year I used leather gloves and it went so so. The next year I used a propane rosebud torch like this.

That was the end of all those micro sized Thorn's, lots better to work with.

I always liked the mow quality with the sears deck on the SS12. It was also narrow enough it fit between my Pine seedlings. The tractor could also climb the hill in the side yard while mowing. Not sure if it was the tractor or the tires on it. My 6517 Simplicity always was spinning out.

:D Al

I have several, only 1 runs at the moment, but it does it all. Good tractors, but I wished the track was a little wider, seems like it can be tipsy sometimes. Hopefully I can get a couple other running this summer.

I mow my small hill up and down now after a scare side hilling it! Side hill with a 50" deck I can make two swipes at it, vs many up and down travels. But...

The cub 128, Ariens GT17, cub 109, John Deere 110, and X570 will hang on with my butt on the fender. The sears, not much of a fender but with my butt hanging off the side it still went on 2 wheels and I quickly had to steer down hill awhile deciding if I wanted to jump off or not. Made it down safely...but never again. The previous owner of that tractor said his daughter roll it over on a hill when the tractor was only a few years old. It will also wheelie on flat ground if your foot slips on the clutch pedal, that was fun/scary at the same darn time.

Nice job on the deck. I did mine as well and so much easier to clean off after mowing. Seeing your deck hanging over head remember...if you can't tie knots, tie lots!:)
