Simplicity 3415H Repairs

Jim I think you bought a Bolens from ole Glenn in Okeana before you moved south? I heard last fall, he had to move and all his stuff is gone now.
I did Marty I hate to hear that. He told me he rented that place I think it was a few acres. I enjoyed talking to him. He had a sweet Jim Dandy he was going to restore. Most his stuff was late model. This is funny. I was looking for something today and found a box of stuff that I cleaned a file cabinet out several years ago. In that stuff was Glenn’s receipt for that Bolens. I thought, I need to call him to see how he’s doing.

Finally got this done except for the front tires. I dug up a pair of 15x6x6 and put those on so I could move it out of the shop. It was running a little lean so I had to choke it a little but did well other than that. The generator light stays out mostly but comes on slowly then goes back out. I must have a loose connection somewhere. I’ll deal with that later. I’m going to mount the deck on this then start on another one. The White 1855 just needs a hydro fan blade put on.

Rusty thought he was going for a ride.

That freshly painted dash box and panel sure is bright.

I mounted the deck yesterday and was nervous when I engaged the PTO for the first time. It engaged and disengaged without a problem at all. The deck ran smooth with no major vibrations. I drove around the yard a little just to see how it floated and was very happy with it. I had rollers right behind the deck all the way across at first. I seen some pics of others and they only had 3 in the middle so I changed that. I also temporarily used bolts and nuts to mount it. I made some pins out of a few carriage bolts to mount it later. I left the belt guards off to make sure things were working properly so now I’ll put them on. The carb is giving me a problem. I’ll post that in my other thread since there was some discussion on that being an after market carb.

The deck is sitting closer to the right rear wheel than the left when lifted all the way up. I’m not sure how I’ll correct that. I’ll try adjusting the front bale to see if that will pull it forward.

The lift point on the deck may have something to do with difference on the closeness to the tire.

I'm with Kenny on the rollers and scalping. I ad one mower where the previous owner cut the belt guards so that he could blow the dirt out. Most of my decks don't have the guards.

This deck along with a Bolens deck I also rebuilt have the belt guards. I may leave them off. No matter how good they are dirt and grass still gets in there and makes it difficult to clean.

The new tires mounted up nice. It always steered with very little effort to be an old tractor. I never noticed any difference with these. I’m really happy with them so later on I might go ahead and order another pair for my MTD 990.

I have two rollers on each end with three in the middle. It also has two anti scalping rollers underneath the deck tucked up inside. I do have a lot of uneven ground.

Although our acre has no hillside, it is very uneven mowing. The full length roller on the rear of the MF610 deck sure helps with the scalping. I have never seen rollers on the inside of the deck before! That is probably a big help!

I got the MF12G in 2011 and I think the third time I mowed with it , the belt guards had to come off. I could smell wood burning as the guards packed up with little twigs from the cottonwood trees. Could see that the belts were getting scarred too. I blow the deck off with compressed air after every mow. With the guards on there it was too hard to clean those areas out after mowing.

Dac these belt guards totally cover the belts and have a very small open space around the center pulley. I could never clean the belt area without taking them off. I might see how they workout a few times then take them off to inspect. Here’s a pic of the two rollers inside the deck.

I bought a fuel tank back in the winter on eBay so I installed that today. This factory tank is twice as big as the one someone put on. It was a little more trouble than I anticipated. I had to take the dash panel off and to get it off the steering wheel had to be off. After all that I had to take the battery out. Everything fit nice and snug. I had to use zip ties to hold it in. The seller had the tank brackets for sale separately for almost what I got the tank for. No go on that.
