This is my three of four tractors I wanted to get done over the winter so I’m running real late but it’s getting done. I’m not doing anything cosmetic so it’s just routine maintenance. The battery tray unlike the 3415H is in good shape. So far I’ve changed the oil with a little MMO added, changed the air, fuel, oil, and hydro filters. I added a little hydro oil it has a quarter size leak over night. Right now thats not a problem to worry about. I cleaned the spark plugs and noticed a lot of rust inside the plug wire cap. I took a stone wheel used to sharpen a chainsaw and put that in my cordless drill and got them cleaned up. I sprayed them out with carb cleaner now bright and shiny.

Next up I’ll be taking all the pulleys off and get them cleaned and check the bearings. These Simplicity tractors have more pulleys than any other tractor I’ve worked on. One bad pulley on these can destroy a belt.

Had a good day yesterday for only four hours in the shop. My steering wheel had a lot of slop in it. I took a piece of roof flashing and made a shim for the steering shaft hole and another for the wheel hub. Between the two shims it sure tightened it up nice.

I took some more pulleys off cleaned them up and painted. I had one pulley that was bent bad on the edges. This one is only used for the mower deck which I won’t be using on this tractor. I heated it up and bent it back and painted it.

Today I’m going to check the light wiring. It’s lit up light a light house on the rear deck. My friend I got this from traveled the road some plowing his driveway so he put these lights on the deck. These only have the one giant tail light on one right side. I’ll probably just stay with that one light I’m not crazy over the side marker lights. He’s also got a flasher rigged up on this.

I got all my pulleys back on, troubleshooted the light wiring and found a blown fuse with a piece of tin foil inside. I took all the rear lights off and mounted the one round tail light in the factory fender hole. I’m going to rewire the headlights and change the route of the tail light wire. I probably won’t work on this tomorrow I have to cut the grass and weed eat for the first time this year.

Finally #3 tractor is done and out of the shop. I finished up the head and tail light wiring. I have plenty of rear tires but no extra front tires. I had to put the little 6” wheels and tires on so I could move it. I love this 20 hp Kohler Magnum, it’s like starting up a good old truck, starts up immediately, runs smooth and you can feel the muscle in it.

Good to see it out again. I, too, like the Kohler Magnums, Alice has the 18 HP. Starts easily every time.
Is your Alice comparable to this 7117H and what model is your AC. I’m taking a strong liking to these. I’m trying to educate myself more on the models of Simplicity/AC that compare. I’ve always followed Zippo Varna, Simpletractors, and a FB group that pertain to these tractors and implements.

It started life as a 716 6-speed. After major mods, it's now a 718H Modified tractor.
