Thinking about building a set of half tracks for the PK

I was talking with my friend that I got the tracks from and he suggested cutting the track width on the fender side giving the needed clearance I think that may work thinking of cutting them with a saws-all yes the shorter tracks will turn easier and there will be less stress on the boggy wheel struts
Have you considered wheel spacers to widen the stance and provide clearance? Don

Hi all well after blowing the flurries that turned into 4+ inches I experimented with cutting the track not easy tried the sawzall no good turns out there are hardened steel clips in the square drive holes next tried the air cut off tool that was slow going and never did get one area cut so I tried a larger bolt cutter it worked but is a lot of work so next I'm going to remove the fender and see if that will work

Do you mean to tell me that somewhere in the big shop of yours there isn't a portable chop saw hiding? You should have one as they come in very handy.

Hi Chris no portable chop saw maybe I should have a fund raiser and get one:p This afternoon I removed one of the fenders and remembered that EPCO used the same fenders on the 16" & 24" models just raised them for the 24 and sure enough the mounts were drilled to raise the fenders did that and now there is clearance so no need to cut the width and once the track was centered on the tire it just fit right there and I can tell there will be no traction problems and the smaller boggy wheels I'm going to use fit right in the middle with the bumps in the track holding them there.

Made some progress on the half track build have the boggy wheel struts close to done removed the fenders so they are not in the way for a test run. Tomorrow will try to get the boggy wheel axles fabricated and installed and the boggy wheel tensioning system made and installed then it to figure out a spring system to put down pressure on the boggy wheels

Sorry to hear that, what went wrong? Hope you can get it straightened out.:thumbs:

@MNGB
Hi Texas, well for one thing my boggy wheel tensioner eyebolt is to light duty had the tension set good but after going forward just 15/20 ft the eye opened up and reduced the tension letting the track run off plus I discovered that the rear strut mount came lose I guess I got in a hurry and didn't get it good and tight and need a lock nut also.
Yea Noel thinking about another type of track assy

Just wondering GB, on the photo I posted. The yellow arrow pointing to what looks to be a rod. Is that metal ? If it is, if you cut between the bars where I have the green line, then bend the rods, where the red lines are, toward the center of the wheel, would this keep the track on the tire ? I know nothing about snowmobile tracks, because I never had a snowmobile. So I don’t know how they are constructed.

Hi Noel, no these tracks have fiberglass rod in them, if they were metal it would be a simple and probably work good.
Hi SimplyRad yes those tracks would be a great way to go but I don't have the money they cost and there to new to find any in salvage places
