This pretty much sums it up

Here's a little bit of Kenora history you may not be aware of Jazz. There used to be a brewery there during the fourties (I'm guessing...it was before my time and may have even been earlier). It was right close to the narrows between the mainland and the island in the part of town called Lakeside. The old buildings were torn down around 1955 or so and the town was flooded with beer labels that we kids scavenged fanatically. I was in grade six and we all folded and wove the labels into belts, hair bands etc. for weeks on end. I wish I had thought far enough ahead to save some of the labels, they were beautiful and a piece of history that is now long lost.
The beer you mentioned, Sultana? There was a gold mine out on Lake of the Woods named Sultana. It was long abandoned when we used to go out on the lake fishing and would pull up on the shore for lunch and explored the remains of the buildings. I remember the huge beams and broken wooden boxes filled with round, smooth core samples from drilling.

I hauled powder across Shoal Lake just west of the city of Kenora around '85 to a old mine site being reconstructed. Got confused when road split 3 direction on the lakes winter roads, had to go back to Rez to get one of the locals to direct me to site,,,don't like wandering around on lakes not knowing where river inlets are. It was only a mile or two from main shore but not visible due to snow that day. Many old mine sites opened up all around that area when the gold boom was on. The Goldlund mine near Sioux Lookout reopened and still on site were the accommodations used for housing POW's from WW11

Some very cool history being shared here! My Mom and I, back when I was MUCH younger, used to explore the old mining camps of the Black Hills. The reason her family came here in the 1880's was to work in the gold mines in the area. We would dig in the ghost town dumps and even outhouse holes for bottles. Deadwood claims to be haunted also and have been on those "ghost hunter" tv shows before which I can't recall the names.

There must have been a heavy Sioux presence up in your area too @Jazz ? As everybody knows, the Black Hills were basically stolen from them in 1876. The rest is history and a lot of arguing about it still exists.

I'll say this, If that is a real Faxe beer commercial or even just a satire, count me out too! I drink some beer to unwind a bit, not get like that guy---LOL!
A couple times a year I will get a bottle of Crown Royal. No ice, pop or anything in it, when I feel the need for a bit more "kick".
