Is there a way to tell which version of a carb is on a given piece of equipment?
I have one here with a walbro WT.
WT what? WT25? WT37? WT94?
This carb is powdery inside, well beyond hope of a rebuild. I see 3-4 walbro WT's on ebay, all different.
Also related how different is one walbro WT vs another?
 
I have run into that on line trimmers. Picked out the one that matches the configuration of the old one.

I tried to buy walbro on ebay..bought a carb that was supposed to fit my Coleman Pulse 1000 generator but the mounting holes were too close together even though the vendors state they are exact match...sent vendor pictures,,they refunded my money as they had none correct in inventory.B534C829-D3AC-421A-A03E-644EE3298E7F.jpeg
 
Jazz.... that looks bigger than what I'm talking about, which would be teh small "ice cube sized" carbs used on chain saws, weedeaters, leaf blowers and such.

I thought I had a Walbro book around here at one time..... but where it might be at the moment..... who knows

Anyone know which other walbro WT would be compatible with/interchange with a WT40?
That one is NLA, obsolete.
 
website just says "NLA/obsolete/no stock" about 1/2 the parts still show as available, a few show "obsolete when gone" at that site.
thanks for the idea though I wish they'd show a "replaced by" sort of thing but they don't
 
Besides the powdery residue, what exactly is the carb not doing. Have you cleaned the main jet located in the nut that retains the float bowl. best thing to clean it is a set of torch tip drills. I thought you have an ultrasonic cleaner.
 
Yeah I do have ultrasonic, this carb is seized up completely, the bellcrank where the throttle cable is loose on the shaft and the air tube was totally full of eaten up air filter and then some, mouse piss ate the air filter housing.
 
Some acid core solder might fix that loose bell crank. The heat might also free up the throttle shaft and maybe penetrating oil afterward.
 
And for some reason over all the years I have been messing with small engines for some reason I never have had any luck with the small weed eater, chain saw, leaf blower carbs except for chucking them and replacing them. Though, unless they are terminal, over the years I have had pretty good luck with Briggs, Tecumseh , and Kohler carbs
Though I haven't had to touch a carb in a few months of any kind, the last handful of them I have tried to, including many that I usually do pretty well with, haven't been working out worth a $#1t lately.
Briggs 2 pc flo jets Tecumseh carbs (of which it seems I've fixed a gazillion of) Kohler carbs (esp walbro versions) I've had to replace the last couple of years for some reason, nothing carb wise, has taken well to a rebuild for me lately. So I didn't even try to do anything with this one.

I just got very lucky. Bought a Sthil 031 AV for 120. Ran but was doggy. Brought it home and it wouldn't start at all. Decided carb problem and removed the carb. When I started to disassemble the carb all the gaskets seemed to be welded in place so before destroying the gaskets I put all the screws back removed the needle screws and sprayed carb cleaner in all the orifices I could find and let it set for a couple minutes. Then I blew through in every conceivable direction with air. Put every thing back together and it started just like a real saw. A little carb adjustment and chain sharpening and it cuts as good as my last 031 ever did. Some times it pays to do a half way job.

I don’t see that as a halfway job. I see it as using good sense to sort the problem out before running out and buying parts.

I havent counted it out yet..... from what I see with these carbs it seems like there are at least 2-3 for different ones taht will fit in place of one anotehr with Walbro..... and I too hate working on that type of equipment..... never had alot of luck with them.
 
Might have a potential replacement, looks close. NOS genuine walbro, watching it on ebay right now, main difference I see is direction of fuel inlet fitting.
About the same price as a kit. If anything I might have to swap out the plastic end cap where the primer bulb is..... We will have to see.
 
ok.... won the auction. $15 shipped/ I looked thru the many WT carb options shown on Feebay, (not the Chinese repops though) and saw many differences, the higher the "WT" number, the more restrictive they made the mixture screws/ they are at least into the 600s....
I saw different throttle bellcranks, some had a choke built in, while others (like this one) depend on a flap built onto the air cleaner housing...
I found a WT180 HO..... looks really close. We'll find out, as it's on its way. I have the original one sitting here, next to my keyboard to compare to Ebay listing pix.
