welding lead salvage attempt.

A while back I purchased an Onan welder.

It came with 20' 2 gauge leads. Wonderfully flexible and light.

I have done a fair amount of welding with it but it takes considerable caution. If I was still feeding a family welding I would invest in new leads but I am not. Looked all over the web and the cheapest 2 gauge I found was $1.39 per foot bring your own couplers. I decided on repairs.004.jpg

Stripped the old insulation off and pulled the remaining wire through 1/2 OD 3/8 ID pvc tube I had laying around.

Didn't have enough tube to Finnish the job so will need to buy more. This was more or less a proof of concept test. I don't see any problems so I guess I will proceed. I have other leads around that can benefit from this treatment but will require different size tubes. I may try heat shrinking the tube at some point.

Interesting idea. Never even would have thought about it.

Hard to believe how much welding lead we wasted at the coal mine. We would string up 100 feet of each to reach an area then when we were done we would lope the ends off and leave the cable hanging along the rib.

I bet I've left 5 miles of welding lead behind...never had time to recover.
