People try to give me some, but I haven't a clue what to do with it. Looks like a yellow cucumber to me and you pickle those. Are they edible?

Really? Thought they were just a Fall ornament. Never been around any.

What @olcowhand said.
You can sub ground up cornflakes for the cornbread for a different taste
Either way, I like mine with fresh ground pepper in the breading and bacon on the side.
I had them one time with vanilla in the dip. That was good too.

Do you peal them or what? Just wash and slice? What do they taste like?

Sounds like its a yellow zucchini Great for pickling. Spaghetti squash and zucchini are pretty much tasteless and are filler food, have to add flavour.IMO. Zucchinis we slice in half, stuff with sausage type meat, and cheese and pasta sauce then bake....its awesome. Zucchini also used as filler for muffins or loaf(similar to banana loaf) but using zucchini as filler. Toss it in a stews/soups,,its good for you and you'll never know it was in there

For zuchini and yellow squash, I like to: Wash, slice in chunks, add onion, bell peppers, some Mrs. Dash original (yellow top) or the maroon top (Italian?), or salt/pepper/garlic powder.....or some Italian seasoning (basil and whatever else is in there)..add a cup or so of water and some olive oil...... put it in a couple of layers of aluminum foil and throw it on the grill..... it'll be good in 20 minutes or so.

For just about any winter squash: Cut in half, place cut-side-down in a glass baking dish that has 1/4" of water in it. Bake at 350 degrees for an hour. Scrape out the insides, add cinnamon and lots of butter and mash smooth. YUM!!!!!

Squash can also be used as a substitute for potatoes at a meal. We like the acorn squash, baked with butter and brown sugar. Pumpkins are a member of the squash family so squash can be used like you would a pumpkin. We plant some of the mini squash and pumpkins for fall decor.

We do like Roger, we roast an oven-full at at a time in fall, then freeze the roasted flesh and use it as a side dish instead of potatoes all winter long. It is nice, a bit of butter, maple syrup and salt and pepper. Good eating. Good source of beta carotene too. Plus, it's one more thing we can grow and eat all winter long.

We grow butternut style, Butterscotch Hybrid. It is a compact plant with sweet squash perfect for roasting.

Sounds like I need an afternoon to prepare this stuff. I don't have that luxury, so I'll pass!

Just wash, slice, egg dip and bread.
Then fry.

If you like black pepper, this is one of those dishes you can pep up without overwhelming.

As for taste... Kinda like Fried Green Tomatoes but without the tomato flavor.

I don't eat much of it, but it's a filler I guess, just not a ton of flavor as Teresa doesn't add pepper or salt, but I add enough after cooked to make it pretty decent. I try to expand my picky appetite, and have found a lot of things I never used to eat are not so bad.

What do with squash. Eat it. Sister in law cooks it in oven and mashes it like turnip. It’s good. But not my favourite.
