I been working on my k321 and instead of getting ahead, seems I’m going backwards. The more things I try and fix, the more things go bad.
Any way, took the flywheel of to check for a sheard key. Which it was. ! I was having trouble tryIng to set ignition timing. So found the trouble. But when I got the flywheel off, a few magnets were off too.
So, what do I use to glue them back on ?
Thanks for any help.
Oh ya, found this too. Governor spring and arm worn real bad. If it’s not one thing, it’s two things. Jumpins.

Noel

Hi Noel I've used JB Weld with good success got to remember to get the magnet back in with the right polarity , I've never seen governor parts that badly worn that engine must have a bunch of hours on it

I’ve figured out to put 5/16 nuts under them to hold them up and 1/4 nuts between them. Not sure yet how to hold them tight against the flywheel yet thou. I’ll do some thinkin, that could hurt thou, so if any body has any ideas, let me know please.
I have the polarity figured out. And have them numbered so I can put them back in their right position. That may not make any difference, but I did it any way.
I've never had trouble with magnets coming loose in any other engine I’ve done in the past. All new to me.

Seems quite frequent on Kohlers for the magnets to come loose.

I sure know what you mean, Noel, by one step forward and two steps back working on a K321! The flywheel was about the only part I didn't have to fix in one way or another. It looks like roll pins were used to space the magnets.

Did the loose magnets hurt the stator? Sure looks like that could cause a lot of damage with loose magnets!

Hope that you get them epoxied back in to finish your engine!

No. Didn’t hurt any thing Doug. But knowing my luck I would have put the engine back in and then they’d fall off and ruin stuff. Must of been ready to fall off and the jarring of me getting the flywheel off finished them.

Noel

It shouldn't hurt that cast flywheel to heat it so the original clue releases. Then you know they won't come loose again. I had one that the magnets came loose and tore up the stator pretty bad. Only option is to get another flywheel if the magnets break.
