Whoops

My dementia showed up again. Wrote this post yesterday and forgot to hit post reply!

That is a very cool tool Chris and the rest of you that have one! Glad those weights didn't fall off the tractor out on the highway or in town!

I worked with 2 different journeyman welders that had air arcs back in the 1970's and they used them frequently but have never seen the carbon arc before. I no longer have a stick welder. A friend gave me a very old GE back in the mid 1990's. It was one of those that had the hand crank on top and it would change the amperage. Very heavy duty old unit. Can't remember if it was AC or DC. The biggest job I used it for was building the bridge crane I use in the shop now. About 15 years ago that old friend bought a ranch. He needed something he could weld outside with in the wind repairing corral panels, chutes, that kind of thing. I told him he could come get it as I had my Lincoln MIG by then. He gave me a new porta power anyway for trade. Kinda wish I still had a stick welder at times as I did a better job of making pretty welds with them than I have ever been able to with a MIG---LOL!

Interesting thread guys, keep it coming!

Me too! I'd hate to see someone hit that thing. Probably spend the rest of my life setting in courtrooms.

One thing I would like to do is try brazing with the arc torch. I enjoy brazing and it would be a new challenge. Problem is I really don't have anything that needs brazing and I never thought about using it when I did. I got in the habit Of using Acetylene and that's the first thing I reached for.
