Looking at Building a Side Mount Rotary Mower

Bar mowers are expensive for what little use I would get from them. Thinking of possibly building a GT side mounted push mower. Would take counter balance for sure. Lifting would by by way of the hydraulic lift on the tractor. Just in the thinking stag now. Would like to use a 24" mower at least. Would mow just outside the rear wheel. Kind of like the tow behind only side mount.

What would be the purpose of this Roger? Hills, ditches etc?

I built a frame for a push mower to mount on the front of a tractor and push it up the hill and down into ditches, It.s only 17 or 19 inches. Looking for something wider.

I would use it on the pond and land side of the dam to our small pond. Also along the edge of the road to the row of trees now, shrubs later. I saw you frame and push mower set up and looked good. The land side of the dam has a fence about 3' from the break point of the top of the dam. Couple other similar areas it would be useful.

Both the loder set up and the frame to push the mower up hill worked good. Either one would work in my case.

Something to consider is the amount of time the mower is going to be at a steep angle. With the splash system they have, the oil might dry up to where it needs it. Pushing my mower up the hill, it is only at an angle for a few seconds then down on the flat again. Going along a ditch may keep your mower at an angle for quite a while.....Just sayin'

Your 100% correct and I have thought about that. Would have to have a limiter built in. Not figuring a mowing anything lawn short. More of taking the top off and leaving 6-8" or so. Be a lot of back and forth using your method, so got to thinking about a side hanging unit. My not even be feasible, will see.

If you have hydraulics maybe you could make it a hydraulic driven deck? They do that with the boom mowers, then you wouldn't have to worry about a separate engine.

I had thought about that as the CC 1512 I would put it on has the front outlets but no sure the volume would be near high enough for a mower.

Tractor is used as a weekly mower so another pump would be a lot extra hassle that I don't want to get involved with, but it is an option.
Simple matter of gearing. Don

Gearing ? 2 lines to & from the motor. Gearing is done in the motor, unless one adds a bunch of other gears externally. If I do this it will be a simple project but thanks for the option.

Exactly gearing between the hydraulic motor and the deck. Most easily done with belts and pulleys. Don
