And more junk.

Does that one have a tank you fill thats fixed or does the tank pull out? We had one when I was a kid that looked close to yours but it had wood grain decals.

That one had a tank that pulled out out of the top, you could take it outside and fill it, then bring the tank back and sit it back into the heater. The cap, had a pressure valve that opened when it was seated into the heater. I remember my dad liking that one really well. I remember him yelling at me when I was a kid because he told me to turn it off. I hit the off bottom on the left and it slammed off. He said you gotta hold the knob, then hold the button down and slowly turn it off.

My radiant 10 the tank is the base. I use one of the harbor freight battery powered pumps. It works great!

Yeah Aaron, the tank pulls out the top. There is still some Kerosene in the bottom where the tank plugs in. Probably need to try to drain that tank too.

Exactly how I remember it! That was probably 35 years ago when we had that heater.
I don't know how long battery dates are good, but I think 10 years. That would put it around 1997 the last time we used it. I know it was around there as our daughter was terrified of it as a kid so we didn't use it anymore. She's 34 now. I put it upstairs and forgot about it!

Got the Kerosene at Fleet Farm today. 5 bucks a gallon. They have a pump outside by the gas station. Far as I know it is the only place in town that has one. took the top off and straightened it out some and cleaned everything I could with the shop vac and wiped down with glass cleaner. Tried to suck out the tank in the heater but didn't get very much. Filled the tank 3/4 full. The old plastic siphon pump still picks up after just a couple squeezes of the bulb. I have stuck heater hose on the ends of the hoses and drained automotive gas tanks with that thing before. Sure is a good quality little pump it seems. Put new batteries in it and tested the igniter. Glows just fine. Going to let it soak overnight before I try to light it.

There is a lot of evidence that I used it in the signshop after I took it out of the house. Smudges of lettering enamel all over it! It may have been in use longer than I remember. My first shop furnace was an old house furnace that was much to small for that space. I traded that furnace to a guy that had one that was way to big for his garage. It was also an old house furnace. It worked great for a lot of years but the squirrel cage bearings went out and fried the fan motor. That was January of 2018 when I got the ceiling hanger type.

Sure didn't need any heat today! Worked this afternoon with the overhead door open! Shop got up to 60F inside!

This weather is a teaser---"false spring" we call it here. Winter will make a return at some point before "actual spring" sets in.

The kerosene heater is working, but all the igniter would do is make smoke from the wick. Used a butane lighter and it took right off. Been burning several hours now. Will let it burn until I go in the house for the night to get the fresh fuel worked into the wick. I better do some research on how to put a new wick in it, as if I ever did, I don't remember how to do it.

Loree started working 4-10's and as luck would have it she comes down sick on her first 3 day weekend. Spent most of the afternoon in the house doing some chores she planned to do so she could rest.

Yes it's likely the old fuel in wick preventing the lighter from igniting the wick. I have a round version of kerosene heater I had to buy when our power went out over 2 weeks and used it so I didn't have to run the generator 24/7. These heaters can really crank out the heat when you need it!

Hope Loree gets better fast!
This heater says it is 10,000 btu. Of course the furnace I am waiting on parts for is 80,000---LOL! Looks like it would still keep me fairly warm in a small part of the shop if it gets colder when the parts get here. It has been burning about 6 hours now so I would like to think any old fuel is used up.

Thanks for the thoughts on Loree, Daniel. I hope she does too! Seems like her clients are sick a lot and she catches it.

Many plows had just 1 wheel just Infront of the blades, which kept the plow workable @ not digging 2 deep = less burden on the animal & easier 2 manipulate by the human on the backside of the plow !
You must have gone way back in this thread to make this comment. Didn't quote the original post so the only thing I can think of is when I bid on a plow at auction a couple years ago.

The insulation and gasket for the shop furnace is finally supposed to be here tomorrow afternoon according to Fedex tracking. Wish I was healed up a little better, but maybe in the next couple days I will do some improving. This project has drug out way longer than it should have. It will be nice to have it back in the air and in operation again finally.

The gaskets got here today. Nope they didn't send any insulation. I'm done messing with them! I cut strips of insulation out of the old heat exchanger and got the assembly done. Box was bashed---sent via Fedex. Even though the gaskets were very fragile they were ok.
IMG_2109.jpg

New heat exchanger is in place.
IMG_2110.jpg

Got all the components installed. Hope nothing was damaged! Put a few zip ties on that I had to cut for disassembly after the pic was taken.
IMG_2112.jpg

It is ready to go back up on it's shelf. Too tired to finish it today. Will get to it tomorrow hopefully.
IMG_2111.jpg

It was slightly warmer than outside in the shop, but too windy to open the overhead door. Fired up the kerosene heater since I get cold so damm easy anymore. Got it into the mid 50's.

Must be the same guy that works for Fedex that crushes everything.

I used my space heater to warm the shop up from 48° to 60° in about 1/2 hour. Made it nice to work in.

I guess, CJet! From what you and Daniel said it sounds like normal Fedex business. The heat exchanger box was completely intact at least.

Sounds like that heater is just what you have been needing!

Quick heat and the diesel smell isn't to bad in the shop our size. They say Kerosene is a lot better but costs a lot more around here.
Kerosene is 5 bucks a gallon here, but I do think diesel is considerably cheaper. The fumes probably dissipate pretty fast.

I am spoiled by having a natural gas furnace! Don't know how to cope without it---LOL!
