Craftsman GT18 Electrical help needed

Looks like it may work, for $7.00 may be worth a try. Check what engine code you have, should be on the cylinder tin shroud. I would add a couple diodes to the cart as back-up. PS we have the 9 amp alternators

All 3 of mine are the same 422437 1209 01. May be best to go with the P-N diodes. I could probably build one (tested) and send it to you for a few $$$. I'll have to see what I have for the plastic connectors.

I appreciate the offer! I ordered that piece and a few diodes that will be here in a few weeks :/

Not sure that voltage rectifier will work, but it's here Friday. Looks like a different connector from the stator.

Post your results! I have everything except the single connector plastic piece. I may go ahead and source this and make another assembly as I have three Craftsman's

Dang, that's ridiculous! for a couple diodes that could fit in an envelope. There is a local (to me) electronic stores, L&M Electronics, that I use often.

Let me sum up for anyone who might stumble on this thread looking for help.

1985 Craftsman 18HP Garden Tractor
Model: 917.255970
Engine model: Briggs and Stratton 422437 0721 01

Diode assembly: 106315x

Diode assembly fried and melted. Instead of replacing with $60+ part, I created my own assembly with the help of Larrybl here! I used some old molex connector wires from an old computer powersupply. I cut them off, took out the ones in the connectors on the tractor (hint: to get out old ones use a small screw driver or exacto knife and push in sides of metal tips, they will then slide right out). I purchased diodes from amazon, these. Do not use Schottky diodes, they don't work in this application. I made sure that the diodes were in the right direction. I ensured that the white bands on the diodes were in the correct orientation (see previous posts for visuals). I connected it up, tested both the key switch side and then the stator side to ensure it was working and was good to go. Hope it helps.
